I may be wrong but I think I am one of the most active, avid & devoted Mac audiophiles here. Personally, I could care less about HDMI 1.3 or any other future Technology.

I agree,i too could care less about HDMI 1.3.

I dont get the hype that seems to steamroll with each passing day over hdmi 1.3,in the grand scheme of things its unimportant.

Masterlu/Ivan: Wanna make a gentlemans wager of lets say $2000 that if Mcintosh rolls out HDMI 1.3 on the ap/vp 1000 that you will be the first one on line to buy it?

I understand that 1.3 is meaningless to you and there wouldnt be any benefit to owning a 1.3 processor so, this should be easy money. Wanna bet?

PANHEAD: How can you pass the buck on this poor guy (ROC) who is in his 60's and doesnt live on these boards? He sees HDMI and assumes it is capable of working with all of the latest Bluray and HD DVD players, how is he supposed to know about 1.2, 1.2 or 1.3? Sure it's buyers remorse, the guy has yesterdays newspaper and paid todays prices, damn right he's remorseful about it as he should be.

ROC: You are on a mac forum with mac enthusiasts and mac employees, if you think you are getting sound advice on your mac equipment you are mistaken.

All of the initial thoughts you had regarding the MAC products is 100% accurate, don't let anyone try and dissuade you from the truth.

"But how am I going to feel in just a year or two when everybody is touting HDMI 1.3 and I can only yearn for it because there is no way to get there with an MX120? ...I already know about 1.3 yet I still bought the MX120."

Well, to answer the first half, youre gonna feel pretty crappy and stupid for buying a 120 today. Sorry to be blunt but, thats the truth. The resale will be less than 50% of what you paid for it and trying to sell it right now wont yield you much better. Second part of the question is on you. If you knew about it then why DID you buy the 120?

"It just seems like other brands are able to beat McIntosh on getting new technology out to their customers."

I will go one better than that.. There isnt a single company in the world today that rolls out NEW products or new technology any SLOWER than MAC. The newly introduced 120/136 are perfect examples. The very first HDMI enabled processors from MAC were introduced in 2007! This format has been around since late 2002 and not a single manufacturer doesnt/didnt have HDMi processors well before mac did.

"the MX119 and MX135. I knew that I wasn't going to buy either of those models but the new ones that were announced (MX120 & MX136) don't seem to be that much newer in the technologies that they employ."

How about NOTHING newer at all except the HDMI switching/scaling. Same boards, same chassis, same architecture, same algorithyms same codecs, same everything. Oh, one more difference..about $2000 more expensive on the retail end to boot.

"This whole thing has to do with survival of the McIntosh organization."

Well, dont worry too much about that. If these boards tell you nothing else they tell you that anything Mac makes with blue lights will be bought up regardless of how it sounds or what it does. It is blind faith my friend, the sheep to the slaughterhouse.

I can only imagine how much better mac would be doing if they really did introduce something revolutionary or cutting edge instead of all of these rehashed releases of dead technology.

I told Lexicon they were losing it and now they are dead. Dead on the retail and dead on the used market. The "Lex heads" have even jumped ship and all that remains are a few die hards that will go down with the ship.

Same for Faroudja. I saw the writing on the wall with that company when other scaler manufacturers were coming to market with algorityhms that were getting better and better, slowly cutting into faroudjas dominance. Now, faroudja isnt even considered good let alone cutting edge.

My final warning goes to Mac. Now that mac was bought by a big company it has no problem staying afloat. The deep pockets of the company and the perpetual parts business mac has from refurbs, broken parts and new glass can keep them around in one shape or another forever. But, as far as being the best or cutting edge, well thats a whole different ballgame my friends.

WOW,thats quite the crystal ball you got there, your Mac bashing is getting............hmmmmm...........whats the words im looking for...............obvious & easy to spot, your anti Mac posts are getting strangely familiar:nono:

First off i dont feel sorry for anybody who buys anything that is very expensive then gets buyers remorse because they didnt research properly, especially high end audio gear, age has nothing to do with it either, computers have other uses than looking at porn or pretty pictures.

I cant imagine a person who demands the latest HDMI whatever not knowing what kind of mess the whole deal has turned out to be,just like sacd, blu ray & the rest of the HT fad market.

If all us Mac owners are hypnotized by the blue meters whats your excuse?

You bash Mac constantly on the basis of features that their gear does not have,Mcintosh has proven that they are not a company that chases features & fads, this is no secret, you want the latest & greatest features & all the bells & whistles for your HT then why even look to Mac,why not simply move on to a Yamaha reciever with the latest features & sleep better at night.

I could go on forever discussing this with you but it would only lead in circles, your convinced that Mcintosh is only good for amplifiers & 2 channel preamps so why even bother.

It is unfortunate that if I or anyone else criticizes MAC then we are classified as "anti mac" or someone with an agenda.

I can tell you that I have had over a dozen emails from fellow members who have basically all stated the same thing...we completely agree with what you are saying but we wont post it for fear of getting attacked or pissing off the mods or other members. Carl or any one of the mods can feel free to check my inbox, I dont delete my PM's.
Not even the webmaster has access to your or anybody's PM "box".

That said, I have well over $10,000 in MAC equipment in my rack. Does that still make me a hater, have buyers remorse or any regrets? No, it doesnt and if you learned anything from my posts, if I had regrets I would certainly voice them for all to hear.

You took the words out of my mouth when you wrote: "your convinced that Mcintosh is only good for amplifiers & 2 channel preamps so why even bother"

While that is a bit broad, it pretty much sums up MAC as a company and the way they think. Amplifier technology for the most part hasnt changed much in 20 years. What sounded great in the 70's and 80's still sounds great today. Same goes for the preamps because 2 channel audio is still stereo and little has changed with stereo since it was introduced. Guys with 2 channel rigs are purists and many still play vinyl and use tube amps so, you cant get more "old thinking" than that.

As I stated, I think Mac makes great sounding stuff and they have been at it for many, many years. Where they sorely fall behind is in new technology, multi channel audio, home theater and video processing. You can call me a hater until you turn blue, but I have repeatedly justified and supported my comments with facts and the fact is that Mac is so far out of the tech curve with their AV stuff that it renders them a non issue when it comes to home theater.

So, while I bought a 119 and am happy with its 2 channel and multichannel audio, I knew from the start that it was an interim piece that was capable of doing what every other $200 box could do but, sounded far better on 2 channel audio and had balanced ins/outs. I got it used for a song and it has been worth every penny. It is still an interim piece because of the lack of 1.3 processors but, I am fully aware that everybody will have a 1.3 processor to market before Mac does so, the 119 will have to go but, the amp will always remain in my system.

Thats the way it is and thats how I feel about it.
