My first Stereo was …

After a while my clock radio, which had mechanical digital numbers that looked like they melted one to another-vs the flip clocks- failed to satisfy me and I bought a Soundesign, at JC Penny’s I think. Paper route money made it happen.
I just found the schematic while digging around in my rat hole!
Posting it here for posterity.
Looks like it was a good 7 watts per channel out of a stereo STK module.
I added a Gerard changer turntable I scored at a garage sale to the system and then my room was Rockin!

Teac top-loading cassette deck and a pair of Superex sealed back headphones. Added a Dynaco SCA80Q (which I built as a teenager and still have) and a pair of Lafayette speakers I bought from a college roommate (who is still ine of my closest friends). Added an automatic Dual turntable with Grado cartridge my Dad passed to me when he bought a newer AR.

My first Yamaha " starter set " I picked up at Bitburg BX .. Bitburg , W.Germany at the time 1980-82..

Yamaha M-4
Yamaha C-6
Yamaha T-1
Yamaha P750 with a SHURE V15 type IV cart.
Nakamichi 480 tape deck

Yamaha NS-1000 Macassar ebony speakers.

some old soundesign receiver w/ 8track. it was interesting in that it had cables with phono plugs to be plugged into a built in turntable for another model, tied up inside of it.

and some soundesign speakers that had the appearance of 2ways but were only a full range 5"

given to my dad to give to me when i was like 12...tuning string was broken so i had to open it up to tune it. luckily there was only one real station to listen to in this area . wwct 106, the home of rock n roll.

the days of the king biscuit flour hour and dr. dimento.

Pioneer SX-3600 along with headphones to listen. Then ended up with a Pioneer PL-200 turntable and Omega 300 speakers. Ended up selling the SX-3600 after the second time in the shop for a broken switch under warranty. I replaced it with a JVC R-X40. I sold the speakers later on and bought Boston A100's. I still use them now. The Pioneer TT still works too.

My first was an old Magnovox console with TT, AM-FM radio and an 8 track player that I saved from the trash that my nieghbor tossed. I think it was in 1969. It worked fine and they just didn't want it anymore. My first real seperates rig was a complete Radio Shack setup with a STA-2000 reciever a cassette player turntable and 4 T-100 speakers all for I believe it was on sale for $899 complete. I wish I still had it. :music:

My first stereo was underpowered, ugly sound device that barely made the grade as a receiver. It was a "Lloyd". And to make matters worse, the speakers were of the same dismal build.

Even my little plastic transistor would give this first stereo system a run-for-its-money!

After four years of enduring the above system as a poor student, I managed to obtain a much needed, much improved "SONY" system with two decent "mini 7" speakers.

And as many have shared... the rest was history, with improved audio gear in the years that followed.

1969-70: Electro-Voice EV-1179 receiver, Realistic (BSR) Lab-6 turntable with Shure M75 cart, 2 Realistic Solo-1 speakers...and eventually Columbia House or similar 8-track playback deck.

This replaced my parents' Westinghouse tube record player, which was actually quite nice...

In college I worked as a furniture mover which paid pretty well for a part-time job. I bought a:
Pioneer SX-525 receiver
Dual 1229 turntable
A pair of big-ass 2-way Cerwin-Vega speakers that someone traded in at the stereo store where I bought the other components.

In 1975 i was 20 and put together my first stereo system. Marantz 2245 receiver, Janszen Z410 Electrostat speakers, Either a Dual 1019 or 1218 turntable not sure which but i put a Stanton 681eee cart on it. i had a Pioneer cassette deck and 8 track too but i dont recall models. The 2245 is still going strong, i threw out the Dual when it went wonky after about 10 years ( dumb ) Speakers are in storage but shot and in bad shape.

First stereo was an all-in-one Electrophonic (1974) with record changer and 8-track player; bought it at K-Mart. First real system (1977) was a Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amp, Technics ST-7600 tuner, Sony TC-377 RTR and Pioneer PL-12D turntable with home-built Utah speakers.

My uncle gave me a hand me down Sansui 350a (oldest daughter has), AR XA (still my main table) and some KLH-17’s (oldest daughter has) when I was 11 in 1976. Before that it was a free standing GE TT with speakers on the side that opened up.
