My first Stereo was …

An Army buddy sent me a Sansui 2000 from Saigon in 1967 (I think). I went to a Mesa, AZ stereo shop and bought a Dual 1019 with an Empire cart and a pair of AR 4x speakers. I still have the speakers, but they are in dire need of a rehab job.

My first stereo was a Technics SU-V 505 (thats how the Technics "thing" started...)
Now I have a lot of them:
SU 8080 - recaped
SU 8088 - recaped
SU 8099 - recaped
SU V 505 - stock; yes, my first amp
SU V 707 - recaped
SU V8 - recaped
SU V9 - recaped
SU V90D - stock
SU V10X - recaped but curently not working :(

Picture with my first amp :)

My first was an old Magnovox console with TT, AM-FM radio and an 8 track player that I saved from the trash that my nieghbor tossed. I think it was in 1969. It worked fine and they just didn't want it anymore. My first real seperates rig was a complete Radio Shack setup with a STA-2000 reciever a cassette player turntable and 4 T-100 speakers all for I believe it was on sale for $899 complete. I wish I still had it. :music:
Hey cartop! I 20220806_195740.jpg Have that exact rat shack system in my main listening room! My first system was a cheap soundesign system perfect for my first apartment.

My first was a Technics rack system from 1985-86. I thought it was great. I bought it from Music Craft on North Ave in Chicago for $1000. Big money for me back then.
I liked it better than the Pioneer system at Sears.
The cd player crapped out after 20 years, replaced it with a 5 disc Technics model.
Then we had a power surge/lightning strike and that took care of the amp. Tossed the amp, tuner, tape player in the trash.
I still have the speakers and the EQ and CD player.

Wow, Great sounding system and for its time and price I was very happy with mine.
yeah man ! i love it ! i only have$1040 tied up in it and hard pressed to switch it out ! i have a sansui set up that also sounds amazing . the only thing else i want to do is get a tube amplifier to try and increase the dynamics but im a little lost in this area and not sure which direction to go .

A lot like this one - mine was yellow... ;-) Should'a kept it!

So, imagine Alice Cooper & Black Sabbath & Gary Puckett & The Union Gap & Easy Rider coming out of that... My dad was probably sorry they bought it for me...

In about 1969 I found my dad's old system in pieces in the garage. It wasn't stereo, but it was cool. A Grommes Little Jewel amp with a Craftsmen tuner preamp and a loose Utah Universal 8" woofer and some sort of horn tweeter.

I wanted stereo, and I managed to buy this little Monarch 10 or 15 watt amp that was ok for a while, but pretty soon I built a Dynaco SCA-80, which I still have.

Allied receiver with a ripping 7.5wpc, Pioneer PL12D. Radio Shack reel to reel and home made 12" 3 way acoustic reflex speakers.

Denon PMA-1080R integrated amp with a Denon DCD-2560 cd player, paid from my first summertime job on an offshore oil rig.
The remaining money was spent on a couple of cases of beer listening to it, as alcohol is not permitted offshore; and 2 weeks is an exceptional long abstinence for a senior student :( (still is, BTW)
Little did I know that the KSS-151A transport in that CD player would be one of the most desirable to have these days....
Both units still working well after 30 years !

A GE Wildcat suitcase record player. It has a headphone Jack , which let me get some much-needed private listening in high school.
