SX-780 (until I finish my 980), a Tecnics SL-1210MK5 TT, and a TEAC A-4300SX deck I rebuilt. Speakers are a pair of "HitMaker" monitors from Parts Express.

And some Vintage Amateur Radio gear waiting its turn on the bench...

Some nice old school speakers would be good match with that setup. I'm running some KLH 23's in a console system and gave my daughter a pair of JBL L19's - both great sounding sets of speakers after a recap.

I agree. I'm a complete rookie when it comes to speakers. There's a local shop that sells old books, vinyl, and CD's. They also have equipment for sale, and they had some nice speakers there the last time I sold them some books.

Should probably check out the speaker forum here. I'm sure I'll brought up to speed quickly!

I heard two new speakers that are defiantly worth a listen, the KEF LS50 Meta at about $1,500 a pair and the Klipsch RP600M priced under $600 a pair.

I'd like something bigger than a bookshelf system, and I have the room. I may not have the budget, though!

I had a Teac A-2300S and an A-2300SR. Both were a royal pain with their toggle switches constantly becoming noisy and hard to clean. I finally found a pair of Teac X-300R's on Ebait for repair and have had no problems whatsoever with them outside of changing out their main drive belts which was all that was wrong with them.

The first TEAC I bought is an A-4010SU, and it hadn't been used in well over 20 years. The lube had dried out, and the belts turned to goo, but otherwise it was in excellent condition. As I went through it, I learned a lot about TEAC, and realized it wasn't the unit I wanted. Found an A-4300SX for an excellent price (made them an offer), and went through that one, which was also in excellent cosmetic shape, and that's what I'm using now. The 4010 is sitting waiting for a new home, but eventually I'd like to get an A-6300, but the cost of 10-1/2" reels and tapes is a bit frightening!

You said it! Those 10 1/2 inch reels are great for long term playing but I certainly can't afford them. I use the 7 inch reels and they do just fine for me. I also had a TEAC A-4010 but gave it to my son mainly because he could afford the reels and I couldn't.
