My newly purchased Polk SDA's caught fire!

My guess is that the guy that helped him with the overheating problem on the truck was smoking and flicked the cigarette butt into the bed of the truck without even thinking. It just happened to roll in between the two cloth sided speakers that were laying conveniently on a moving pad and both smoldered until they ignited from the forced air entrance of the vehicle climbing to highway speeds, causing the full combustion.....
 
A driver is a motor. When ac is applied the voice coil moves in and out of the former. If this delivery vehicle was subjected to a lot of bumps; that would cause the cone to bounce up and down. This would turn the driver's motor into a generator. It would be possible that this caused something in the crossover to catch fire. Check the crossover.
 
Wow, that's pretty neat and sad at the same time. I would love to take a crack at restoring them. For me, I would restore them and not replace the fire damaged wood. It's a pretty interesting story and it'd be a shame to lose it. A real statement piece for sure.

Moving blankets can ignite in sunlight or prolonged exposure to heat, especially if they have traces of flammables embedded from use.

I have been told not to dispose of oily or petroleum stained moving blankets in metal dumpsters during the summer. The heat and fumes along with the materials used in the blankets create a fire hazard.
 
I bet it was a cigarette. I see idiots throw lit butts out their windows all the time. One landed in the trough where the windshield wipers live on my car, and I had to stop and put it out.

Most chemicals like that are flammable perhaps it leaked out and the fumes were ignited by a spark or lit cigarette in some kind of "stars aligned" scenario lol

In the back of an open pick-up....

Someone with a lack of maturity burned the cherry red hot on their cigarette and flicked it into the back of the pick up, the pick up had to be driving slower than the rest of the traffic, the burning embers probably caught the speaker cover on fire.
 
There's a white bottle of "something" near the cab of the truck. That bottle has a hose that looks to be hanging to the floor of the bed. Driving, shaking, bumps and heat caused whatever liquid is in that bottle of "something" to siphon and seep onto the moving blanket beneath the speakers and into the groove of the bed liner where it wicked down to the rear of the bed saturated the moving blanket and was ignited by ?? Possibly mixing with the contents of the other bottle of "stuff" being crushed by the tie down strap. The point of ignition and the hot spot appears to be closest to the tailgate and between the speakers where flames began to follow the chemical (fuel) trail up the moving blanket to its source... the white bottle with "something" in it.

I'd bet that whatever is in the white bottle is "something" flammable. The moving blanket and speakers didn't just catch on fire from a cigarette alone, there is obviously a fuel source involved. IMHO

Possible a hot spark came out of the tailpipes? More likely if the truck had duals out the back..Whatever it was it started on that quilt probably

The white bottle looks like roundup,but the yellow bottle could be fertilizer..Nitrogen fertilizer could accelerate the flames?
