My newly purchased Polk SDA's caught fire!

Obviously it's not friction , that's ridiculous. Personally a)being a smoker, b) drives a pickup truck, and c) very often transporting speakers in the back is why I do not toss my cigarette butts out the window while I am transporting them, for this very reason. As the op stated the original owners do not smoke but I would probably question that as well but more than likely a lit cigarette butt was tossed by someone. Quickly ending up in the back of the bed of the truck which is a common thing an ignited that blanket that was on fire. All it takes is a little bit of wind and something to get a fire going. Case in point have you ever went through a fast food drive-through and seen the mulch on fire?
Btw I am sorry to hear about your loss a man, I'm a big SDA fan , and I would truly be at a loss if it were me .

So what happened? Had you already paid for them? Did he turn around and take them home? Curious to know what the final outcome was.

Regards
Mister Pig

First off I want to say, "Why the hell do smokers think its ok to flick cigarette butts into the wild?" No other form of litering is acceptable yet nearly all smokers dont' think twice about tossing a butt. Bugs the crap out of me. Ok, rant over. Now a similarly sad story:

This reminds me of something that happened to a buddy of mine a while back. This was in the late ninety's when netbooks weren't really out yet but a few manufacturers made very small laptops. My buddy who is also an IT guy tracked down and bought a hard to find very small laptop (I think it was a sony Vaio) that was only available in Japan. He bought it off eBay and it was shipped here via FedEx. Around the day it was supposed to arrive he's watching TV and there is a news report of a FedEx truck here in Houston on the freeway engulfed in flames. Guess what was on that truck :D

Colonel Mustard in the Library with the Pipe Wrench.... I do not see enough bones to identify this dinosaur.

Sorry to hear about your fortunes. I would personally sh%t your pants for you if you didn't get a full refund. Unless the entire story is hokum by the sellar.

Something about the overheating/fire = something stinks. I can live with never knowing.

I know exactly how this happened. Something like this:

Yeaaaah, pleased ta meetcha. Me and my associates here was noticin' what a nice set a speakers ya got there. Be a terrible shame if they was ta, say, catch fiyah. These tings happen. (shrug) For a small, weekly payment to us we can completely and absolutely guar-an-tee that your beautiful speakers ain't nevah gonna catch on fiyah. It's like insurance, ya know, except insurance is only good afta your speakers have already turned into a smokin' ruin, and the insurance ain't gonna pay if it looks like what they call might call a suspicious blaze. Fuggedaboutit. Our policy is good before anything happens. Knowimsayin'? You're with us now, so you don't need ta worry about a ting.

Well, that's how these things happen in New York City...

Final outcome was..... his wife suggested at the point after the fire to cut their losses, tuck tail and head home before another shoe dropped. I have wondered how close they were to me when they had the fire but it was not discussed. I never gave him the money for the speakers...we were going to do a cash payment of $325 and that included delivery. They were bought new by the seller and he had the cable and paperwork so i was very happy about the deal.

He said something about making some type of project out of them now after the fire? He also had a couple of really nice Adcom amps that we were discussing that i may buy....those were not brought up any more. I figured he may be worried trying to make the same trip hauling the Adcoms for fear of a jinx of some sorts?

By the way...i may have gotten the fire extinguisher part wrong. He said a passing motorist helped get the fire extinguished. I am not sure with what...it may have been with water. I was in such disbelief i was not hearing so well. You nonbelievers can just go on to e-bay and see these posted from Madison, AL...in the sold listings before they were on fire. I was the only bid.
