My turntables failed the Telarc 1812 Overture Test SO HARD....

Just played this German imported 1979 version on the Well Tempered Lab Turntable with a Grace F-8C Custom cartridge and it sailed right through the cannon shots, the Kenwood KD-770D with a Denon DL-301 in the living rm earlier had no problem either.

Both systems have Belles amps with plenty of current on tap, the Well Tempered in the media rm with the Infinity Modulus System's sub rattled the windows along with my bones reproducing the cannon shots.

The Kenny in the living rm system with the AR58S 12" woofers were really showing they lack nothing in the bass department. While not reaching as low as the Modulus sub they energized the room for a real visceral gut punching experience nonetheless.

The Rock, Thorens, etc aren't currently in rotation so not sure just how well they would have faired.

OK, so tonight I decided to have a little fun with different speaker setups in the media rm with this album.

So I again 1st listened with the complete Modulus System with the Belles amp, followed by just the Modulus mains. The system was again just superb in its execution, the cannon fire was startlingly real.

Then the little speakers alone just amazed me at how much impact they still had with the cannon fire, plenty of startle factor when pushed just to their limit. But the best part was how great they were with the bells, even at their limit the bells each could still be heard as a separate entity occupying it's own space.


Then I powered up the SoundTech A 1000's 400watts with the Jamo C-103's connected along with twin Dayton Audio Sub 1200's connected in stereo. WOW, huge dynamics, super impactful, the twin subs really energized the room.

Turning off the Daytons the Jamos showed they could render the overture in its full glory on their own, I could still "feel" the cannon shots from their 7" woofers. The bells were outstanding but they didn't have the same individual presence as with the Infinitys, the Emit K tweeter is quite special.

As an update, I did keep the firebird, and "purchased" it as well from the seller, who also sent me the 1812. I tried the 1812 on a KAB upgraded SL-1200 mk2 with an ortofon 2m blue and it kicked it off to a previous groove, making a loop. I then swapped headshells to my CD-4 duty cartridge, AT15SS, and it sailed right through.
