"Mystery screw" / Sony Walkman WM-D6C. Can You ID it?

Take a look at “mystery screw” I found loose inside Sony WM-D6C Walkman I just bought. Where and What part is this? Or is it just dropped in somewhere else? Thanks.

i can only guess ..
carry strap screw
hinge screw
does it have grease on it ?

Screws with a head and threads like that are usually found on the outside of gear. Look for missing screws or hardware on the outside. Actually it looks like something from a carburetor.

Thanks for the info. I do not see any grease... it is very thin and tiny like those screws in the cover but about 4mm long and made from brass. (I have repaired many vintage cameras and they have that kinda screws). I do not see any missing screw anywhere in that machine (but I have not took the machine apart).

This Walkman seems to be now quite ok (but has horrible static when that screw was loose inside). There is still little static.... when the door is open and I touch the hinge I can hear some static but when the door is closed everything seems to be ok. Nice machine, only strap is missing and needs a new belt. Do you know if new pinch roller are available anywhere for WM-D6C?

They are not available. If it has a metal hub, Terry Witt can rebuild it.

If it's not a hinge screw, it may be a free-play adjustment screw for the capstan flywheel.

If it was me then I wouldn't worry. Then again I've got a 5yr old grandson who loves posting things. If he found that screw of yours then he'd have found somewhere to post it. An open Walkman would have screamed at him.
