Nakamichi 700 find

I bought this Nakamichi 700 for 100.00. It sounds good for a cassette player. Better than my Pioneer CTF-1000.

Yes, it is a superb deck - I have the 700 II and have just finished servicing/adjusting it - very happy with the quality. It also is a real looker, isn't it? An expensive deck in its time (around $700) with some very advanced features. No Metal tape option (neither has the CT-F1000 of course, which I also own), but Type IV tapes are hard to find anyway now, so unless you have a big type IV collection, this deck will be very rewarding. Yes, it is superior to the Pioneer, I think, although I have a great liking for the CT-F1000, which I hope you will still hold onto!

You can play back metal tapes just fine. The 700 has phenomenal low wow and flutter, better than the Dragon. Not many remember this quality.

I didn't know that about the low W&F! Cool! Anyway, they sound excellent. I also haven't played any metal tapes since selling my Dragon, so I will give Beatles White album a spin! I was waiting to acquire another tape with type IV capability. Thanks Nakdoc!:D

Really? Is this true of the 700 as well as the 700II? The only cassette deck that I've ever experienced which had lower flutter than a Dragon was a Revox B215s. You're not referring to the 700ZXL here, are you?
