Need some advice

I still have my Yamaha M70 and C70 from when I was in the service in the early 1980s. One of the channels has started not to work. Would it be better to buy some new components or have what I have refurbished and repaired?

You have to Spend thousands of dollars today to get this high of specification..

Have them Referbished Refreshed by the best Tech you can find....if needed.

Maybe a little cleaning of the controls will get it all working again. I'll link you to a Deox-it thread that walks you through a general cleaning.

A dirty Balance, control pot can stop one channel from working. A weak point to all electronics is all the switches and controls. They ware or get dirty from not being used and siting, in turn they don't make good contact anymore.

Doubt anything purchased new today will give you the service of the Yamaha gear mentioned.
As suggested start with doing a cleaning of controls. Checking connections cables also.
If still persisting after these steps then a service call will be needed with a tech.

Hmmm, no I haven’t—and to be honest I’m not sure how I would do this.

With the power off swap the RCA's one at a time on each unit.
Power up after each time.
Then see if the problem moves or not.

If not then move the speaker wires next.

First with the volume low work the controls and see if you can make it cut out, or clear up.

Just reverse the RCA inputs to the M-70 (L-R and R-L). If issue changes channel. The C-70 is messed up or your interconnect cable is bad. If issue stays in the same channel . The M-70 is borked.

Now if you lose both channels. Both units may have issues.
