Yamaha M-70 / C-70

Sending my Sansui B-2102 off for repairs and need something to listen to while it's getting fixed. A local guy has a Yamaha M-70/C-70 in mint shape for a really good price. Do any of you have experience with the M-70/C-70?

According to Yamaha, the M-70 isn't safe to operate in original condition. AK member Avionic knows which part to change.

I notice in the link it says for European models using 220-240VAC line voltages and says it doesn't apply to the 120VAC models. Does this mean the U.S. models are ok?

Relatively safe.I have seen some US 120v models with the burnt Rifa PIO cap.The replacement part costs about 40 cents.

Thats why Yamaha had a recall on amplifiers with the X-power supply. That cap is on the input AC control circuit. On the schematic look at C607 I believe . Then look at the input line fuse. If that cap shorts internally it will burn open before the fuse does.Specially the old oil RIFA's that were OEM.

Even though the recall was on the 220-240 volt models. The 110-120 models still pop once in a while.Same reason...I don't imagine the damage on the 120 volt models is as quite as severe as the 220 models.

I changed out the cap in mine. It was still good, but on it's way to becoming a problem. Check my sig for some cool pics.
