Need to discover new music,feeling a bit lost

Im currently feeling a bit lost musically, i feel like i need to discover something new

I dont know if this is something we all experience from time to time ? I love music but need something to kick start me, to make me appreciate what i like but that takes me in a different direction, am i making sense ?? Is it just me ?

Currently im listening to the likes of mogwai, david sylvian, early genesis, can, slow readers club. I have varied tastes.

I have done the beatles and stones but listened a lot to new wave/goth/metal so sisters of mercy, nick cave, WASP, sabbath, maiden, rush etc are no strangers to me.

Done krafwerk, depeche mode, velvet underground, doors, pj harvey, bowie, blues, pop, trance/dance...blah blah blah

I have tried jazz and while i think its ok its not really my bag. Used to listen to classical, still do but rarely.

Where do i go from here......other than country. Although glen campbell and johnny cash i will make exception for...been there too....:boring:

Try the free version and/or subscribe to a music streaming service. I hear spotify has a fantastic music discovery thingymajiggy.

If you haven't already stumbled across them, you might dig Porcupine Tree. Sort of a Pink Floyd meets Tool with elements of praise music (but with a dark, existential spin) and other original and unique elements. The musicianship is off the charts and practically every song is a sonic journey.

The last three Windows laptops I've set up included Spotify as part of the original install.
 
Spotify premium is (as the kids say,) the bomb. You can spend your whole life discovering new music. I also like to post and follow on the "what are you listening to now - and more" thread here and listen to what people post. I've discovered a lot of new music that way.

Here are some other ideas for interesting music:
Andreas Vollenweider's album Caverna Magica
Frank Sinatra's back catalog - besides the old classics he's got a ton of great music
Soundtracks - All of the recent Lord of the Rings one's are awesome, and the John Wick one's are kickass
Windham Hill's back catalog - they're out of business now, but you can find all sorts of interesting musicians from the 70's and 80's from WIndham.
Tony Bennett's recent duets albums are American jazz at it's best
 
Thanks guys, yes i use spotify but not often. Hip hop lol, sorry defintely not my bag, nor is drill or grime but i appreciate you taking the time to suggest it, my son is a big hiphop fan.

Wookie, you are DEFINITELY on my wavelength ! All of your suggestions are worth exploring having very briefly listened but causi sui is very very interesting indded, now that gabbed me :beerchug:

And so which "Blues" did you "do"?

Have you considered Folk of the British Isles -- England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland (sorry paddies, callin' "Brit" only for convenience), et.? Have you listened to much Richard Thompson?

American "roots" stuff... Roy Buchanan, Danny Gatton, John Fahey?

White Stripes?

PSYCH from the '60s and '70s, NEO-PSYCH from the '80s onward?

Thanks for this, yes done psychedelia 60 to present from iron butterfly to thee hypnotics.

Blues, son house, robert johnson etc though to the yardbirds, peter green etc.

Not a fan of irish music other than thin lizzy ! Folk not really, new model army yes,although more rock than folk. White stripes, yes good band,raconteurs too, good stuff.

Not sure what american roots is ? Will check that out
