If anyone else likes this band you will be the only person i have ever known other than me who does ! Actually most people just have never heard of them.

Great thread. Loads of brilliant suggestions here and plenty of homework for me to cash in on.
Reggae might open some doors for you. Anthony B, Burning Spear, Sister Nancy, Lee Scratch Perry, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Althea and Donna, it's a huge catalogue. I'd say I'm fairly into it and have gained so much pleasure from it. Dancehall, ska, roots, dub and rocksteady have all morphed and re-emerged, it might turn you towards drum and bass, dubstep or footwork. I've loved stuff so much like LTJ Bukem- logical progression, Goldie - timeless, Johny L, The Orb, Shackleton. Premium stuff. Moodyman, Colder,
Have a listen to journeys by DJ by Coldcut. One of the standout mix albums of my experience.
Lots of really nice electro house and techno must be listened to, think Two Lone Swordsmen, Aphex Twin, Egyptian Lover, Model 500. Autechre , Dopplereffekt, B12
I never imagined I'd get into so much 'machine' music. Love it love it love it. Jega, Boards of Canada, Seefeel, uZiq, Ulrich Schnauss, you can always bridge the learning with a bit of something familiar I used to reset with artists like Minnie Ripperton, Billie Holiday or Al Green, Terry Callier really hooked me too. Thank you Marvin Gaye.
African styles? I've only scratched the surface. Try Fela Kuti or Kanda Bongo Man,
Someone previously mentioned the Sinatra archives, anyone who hasn't given loads of listening is missing out, same too for Tony Bennett, check out Francis A and Edward K for a beautiful album.
Tony Bennet and Bill Evans, beguiling. simplicity with timing and phrasing to caress your deserving eardrums.
I've listened to loads of jazz and will always come back to it. It's so vast I get overwhelmed. Before I got into Jazz I envied those who enjoyed it. Ellington's live at Newport changed everything for me, listened to it so many times it left me ready for so much more .
Finished with the Death metal and Doom etc but Sabbat still get airplay.

Thanks for those suggestions, i dont mind reggae, i do like heavy dub and ska a lot.
Sinatra and tony bennett are definitely not my bag at all im afraid, i avoid that sort of thing like country music.
I know what you mean about jazz being overwhelming,luckily i have a friend who is a jazz freak and have listened to his advice, if i was going to go the whole hog and try to break into a whole new genre it would be jazz, i enjoy live jazz too. That might be the one...other than space rock which seems to be very much my bag.

Jazz is a deep ocean, so maybe dip your toes into the Jazz Fusion/Rock sub genre. Here's a few tasty little morsels from a my previous suggestion of Frank Zappa.
