New Forte III "nerfed"

no the factory Forte and Forte ll did not come equipped with a safety grill for the rear mounted passive and I have not seen one on the Forte lll, however given the number of damaged passive radiators that I have seen it would have been a plan. Given how inexpensive it a set of grill covers are I believe that most Forte owners should install them. You don't have to look at them so it does not matter what style you get so long as they are solid. buying protective covers is a small fraction of the cost or repairing a damaged passive radiator.

No. It isn't stock. I added them myself.

May I ask where you bought them? I have a pair of Forte II and Chorus II that I would like to protect.

Yes, I've seen the grills on PE but I am hoping that 3I3ctron can tell me where he got his since they look to be the fit I want. The PE ones had crappy looking screw on brackets.
 
Any of those mesh grills will work. You just don't use those brackets included with them. The original screws simply go in under the rubber outside ring. They fold over so you can screw them down.

No, the CIII was also nerfed in the midrange when they replace the larger K600 with the smaller K700 from the Heresy. They claim they lost the molds. BS, it's very easy, note Forte III, to make a new horn or reproduce the old horn.

If they add a better horn to the CIII, it will start to compete with the higher price LaScala.

I love my Forte speakers, in walnut as god intended. However, the mighty Khorns in the den prevent them from being the best Klipsch in my house, much less the line. Yeah, larger footprint, but you get to shove them up against the wall, in the corner and out of the way, where they sound their very best. By contrast, the Fortes in the bedroom could use just a little more distance between them and the front wall. They do sound great to me, but the placement isn't ideal. So from a real estate standpoint, while the cornerhorns are larger, they take up less usable space while also providing attractive surfaces on which art or other decorative items can be displayed. Bottom line though, for me anyway, is that the Khorns emanate a larger presentation, and a presence that the Forte can't fully duplicate, even in a smaller room, and certainly not in the same room where my horns supplanted them.
 
Wondering if these would be an upgrade over my Heresy X speakers (Heresy I cabinets w/ Heresy II motorboard, Heresy III drivers / horns, and a custom-tuned ALK CornScala-Wall crossover) / NHT sub combo.

How did you find H-III drivers?

I am also a Heresy lover. Had brand new H-IIs for awhile in the 80s and just loved their bass - so clean, articulate. Would enjoy hearing your modified pair.

Luck, mostly. I found the K-28-E woofers in Canada (those were the easiest, actually), the K-53-Ti squawkers were just K-53 which I upgraded with Klipsch titanium diaphragms (ordered as replacement / spares from Klipsch), and I used K-792-KP tweeters (which have identical motors and horns to the K-107 but come with phenolic diaphragms) with Bob Crites' titanium diaphragms. The hardest to find were the KP-792 tweeters as they don't come up to often, but I found a pair on eBay in 2013 at a price I couldn't refuse...

With the ALK crossover and the Heresy I cabinets (birch ply), I think I may actually have speakers that can better the Heresy III in stock form. Especially when mated to a good subwoofer (which the NHT1259 most certainly is).

Just curious. How does a crossover network tuned for different drivers compared to the HIII design work out better for you? I would imagine that Klipsch spent a lot of time on the design. Have you had a chance to compare your modifications to the stock HIII? Thanks,
 
Al Klappenberger modified the Corn-Scala-Wall to work with the Heresy III drivers / cabinet. The improvements are a combination of better components and the better optimized design afforded by those better components. A crossover with similar components would have added a couple of hundred dollars to the price of the Heresy III.
