The passive radiator isn't really there to put sound pressure into the room.

It is there to give some back pressure/vacuum relief to the front woofer. A vent could do that too but a passive radiator was choosen in this application.

The 15 inch radiator has a third more surface area that the 12 inch woofer. Ergo it is would only have to move 75% to balance the displacement of the woofer. But it wouldn't do that since the designer tailored the radiator's surround stiffness so it is only a partial pressure/volume balance to woofer movement.

So if the woofer cone moved an inch the radiator cone moves much less.

So an inch or two back clearance should be plenty although the speaker might sound better an increased distance away from the wall for reasons other than clearance.

Based on my experience with the Forte and Quartets, I stand by my statement..
 
Put them where you want them, they are your speakers!

But put them closer than one inch from a wall and you might get a disputed warranty claim for a damaged passive woofer from Klipsch.
