New found coherency!

I'm sure that with a massive (quality) sub and tons of power I could expect to get better results, as well. But, like I said, you work with what you have.

Why didn't you just get another Sony SA-WM40? Not criticizing just asking.
It's an old model. And to be honest I can't afford to buy anything right now. I am saving my pennies (no, not for a rainy day) for a new integrated amp.

Subs are in relatively their same spots, but pulled out from the wall a little bit (9 5/8"). Crossovers now set at approximately 65hz. More listening and evaluating to be done.

Crossovers backup to 95hz on both subs. I've found this higher level to provide the best blending in my system/room. My setup is near field with subs less than 1.5 feet below and just to the outsides of the speakers. There is NO localization of the subs, even when kneeling in front of them. It sounds as if all music is coming from the main speakers. That's my story and I'm sticking with it. :p

For what it's worth - I just got around to elevating my subwoofer. It's front firing, and is on carpet. It has about 1 inch high feet it. I put 3 inch high wooden blocks under it (not under the feet), so it's now about 3 inches off the floor. I think it sounds tighter with more "detail" ie, hearing more individual notes rather than just thump, thump, thump. I also angled it up a very small amount - about 1/8" in front.

I changed things up a bit ago... Got a miniDSP and am running the subs in dual-mono mode with LP of 50hz and corresponding HP of 50hz for the bookshelves. New Schiit MODI 3 added today. New mono-block amplifiers are next on my radar. More, more, more!! Lol!!

Listening with the new Schiit MODI 3 to a homemade collection of audio test tracks I use for auditioning new gear. Holy wow!! I am blown away! This is my first "real" DAC. The clarity and separation between instruments is the best I've heard on my humble little system. Mid-bass is clearer - both smoother and punchier. Top end is also clear and detailed without any hint of harshness. I am a happy camper!:thumbsup:

Did you ever try the MiniDSP's DAC? I'm going to be comparing it to the one in the Emotiva PT-100 and the Topping D50 if I have time this weekend.

Yes, and I was not really impressed. I did not notice any big improvement over the berringer DAC. Even though I am still hearing sound through the miniDSP's ADC/DAC conversion process I "believe" the better audio extraction of the MODI 3 DAC first is what I'm ultimately hearing. Does that make sense? Lol.

You're clearly on the right path ..
Sometimes I think subwoofer is a misused term ...
Little mini-box speakers can't reproduce bass freq.... they're "woofless"
Makes sense to me that when you added two 8" drivers to a mini-box system, each with it's attached 50 watt amp ..you had improved soundstaging and integration over a single 12" driver...and now your system has woofers ..
Personally, I think it's crazy that an 8" driver is being called a sub-woofer .. used to be 8" was the minimum size that could even be called a woofer...
A 15 or an 18" driver is a sub-woofer ...
And there is no "bottom end" to be found in little boxes (ported or imported) !!!

Not surprising that you raised the crossover point .. give the bass to the 8's ..as an experiment you could try plugging the ports on the Sony's and messing some more with the crossover point ..

Okay but, transmission line enclosure on the 12" plz ... oh, and I want a pair.
Little boxes proliferated because they fit better in living rooms ... "subwoofers" today are the response to the "give me back my bass plz" , but we only got part of it back ..
Big enclosures equals "Big" bottom end .. (or something like that) .. and bottom end is frowned upon in the living room.
