New members with zero posts asking via pm...

"Search" function @ this site is not difficult to use. Try out "search" @ The Trader's Den sometime.

From your post, it's apparent you have not met new member Deacon Beker. Check him out @ Music Forums: > 100 posts in (even?) one week and this cat is already "in".

Note to all "newish members": We are not bandying about this topic w/ the intention of "reinforcing ... fears ..." of mockery or treating new faces as being idiots. Hell the **** NO. Come off it, we don't play it that way around here. I'd say this is among the most civil of public forums @ the web. My two effin' kopecks.
 
I get the odd PM where it should be better asked in the open forum and I always try to help, but also suggest a post to the appropriate forum. I know **** so people ask me stuff, but sometimes I don't know **** so I admit I don't.

I get this all the time at work too. People call or email us all the time asking easy questions, or at least easy questions if you have any kind of ability with search engines. I might have absolutely NO answer in my head but I can usually find the answer likity split.

Incidentally, although I disapprove of the 'cold calling' type of PM's from very new members, I have actively encouraged some members to PM me about technical questions regarding restores and other stuff which has come up in the course of normal forum posting. On occasion PM'ing them in order to open an otherwise unavailable channel because of how my privacy preferences are set.

I agree Mystic and this was exactly my thought when I first read this thread.

From being a member of countless forums, I've seen people get the noob treatment and one doesn't get the feel that no question is a dumb question so ask away. I've seen many new members at forums ask a question and some will come back with "did you search before asking?". My feeling is if someone has a question, yeah it's most likely been asked before, but if someone knows, they will be willing to answer.

The snide replies to questions are unnecessary and I haven't seen it here. If new members don't see this as one of the most civil forums around, they simply haven't lurked enough.

LOL.. tell me about it. At any given time I have at least 4-5 different make and model schematics minimized.Bouncing from Yamaha to Onkyo to Sansui etc... Its challenging sometimes..
