What are the odds of a 40 year old amp being able to work right out of the box? Seems like it would be due for capacitor replacement at the least.

While the capacitors may be old, they haven't been subject to 40 years of heat and power cycling, so they may be OK for now. I'd start it up with a variac, just to be kind to it. After all, you're waking up Rip Van Phase Linear here.

The first picture is one he used from Classicaudio.com as an example the amp he has is still sealed in the box.

The box in the photos looks tired, and like it has been opened many times. I call BS. Someone has a clean piece and he saved the box, which is not the same as NOS.

Lmao!! And you can tell this how? I cant even see the top of the box to see whether or not it has staples in it still in place or whether there is tape. As far as the sides go hell the box is over 40 years old most things start to show wear and tear after 40 years simply from being moved around if nothing else.
