New Owner to Yamaha GT-2000 TT

Hi all,
New forum user and new owner to the Yamaha GT-2000 TT.

I'm having some issues getting this TT to sound right. The main issue that I have is that with ZERO anti-skate added (it also didn't come with anti-skate weight, does anyone know this weight?), the tonearm flies off the outer edge of the record. I've already took apart the bearing pivots and cleaned and greased them with a light duty grease. Would anyone have any recommendations on how to resolve this?

Current condition of fault:
ZERO anti-skate weight with the tonearm floated (balanced with no tracking force added) and moved to the towards the spindle, the tonearm moves back to the outer edge of the lp.

Original Yamaha GT-2000 headshell installed with a Mofi StudioTracker cart. Recommend tracking force 2.0g and maxed out on the tonearm for 2.2g. With ZERO anti-skate, the tonearm still flies off the outer edge of the record.

I hear a lot of distortion in the upper treble coming from the right channel when playing the inner most track and outer most track. In the middle, the distortion is ok, but still present.

Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the inner workings of the center pivot? I don't want to take this apart.....yet. Do I need to use the rubber pad on the lifter to dampen this movement? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your advise and help. I've been lost in information overload these two days. I'm seriously considering moving back to my Rega P6 if I can't figure this out. Ugh.

So, with no weight the arm "moves" toward the outside, or does it "fly" toward the outside? One sounds like it gently moves, the other not so much.

If gently floaty toward the outside is the table level? Are the tonearm wires pulling on the arm?

One comment, this is an iconic table worth the effort to make right.

Are you sure the stylus has the diamond still there? Or maybe it extreme dirty .

I'd check that first.

If I move the tonearm to the center of the platter, the tonearm has enough velocity to move all the way back out to the outer edge of the platter. No wires that I can see is pulling on the arm, but I will double check this tonight again.


I leveled the table first, and then I level the pivot where the entire arm sits on. Double check both the the table and the arm pivot a few times before I make any adjustments.

New cart..... Not to mention I'm floating the arm and it's not touching the platter. The tonearm is moving to the outer edge of the platter, not skirting across into the spindle.

That's what I thought too. So I leveled the table and leveled the tonearm pivot point as well. Checked this with 3 different leveling methods. 1. a bubble spirit 2. a precision wood workers bubble 3. level app on my cell phone. All three are all within the respected level target. Anything else am I missing?
 
Seems like the tonearm wires may be twisted and pulling the arm back toward armrest. Maybe pop the inspection plate and see if any work has been done, maybe they were changed and not done correctly ...

I see, seems the cabling is the most suspect of for this issue. I took a look of the cabling when I slide off the cover but I didn't notice anything that caught my attention. I'll go over it in more detail tonight. Thank you for your advice!
 
I'm scratching my head over this one too. Somewhere on that 155 page thread is the weight of the anti skate piece.

Who did he buy it from? Did it have an accident during shipping?

I got it from ebay and the only damage was the footer and the needle on the cart. Arm looks good and not damaged.

It should but I assume it would also add some downward force. Maybe it does need it to work properly.

Another question, Take a pic of the arm if you can towards the back and where the tone arm lifter is, in the down position with arm on record in the middle, not playing if possible.

This is also why the link I posted where the fellow claimed that the YSA-1 was a great arm, has to be put into perspective. It depends upon the quality of the YA-39 and the YSA-1(or2) one has. We've already found that there were good and less so. zoo, like me, might have a less so.

My YA-39 was self destructing before I bought it.
