New PL-630 & V15 IV stylus replacement?

Success!:banana::banana: Plays fine now. Cleaned out a little dust (not bad and mostly in the back) and applied Deoxit to the buttons and pitch pot and worked them. Pictures of the innards. Screwdriver pointing out disintegrated rubber spring cover. All were in the same shape. Hopefully, PartsExpress or TurntableExperts will have them. Screwdriver also pointing out the quartz lock switch and the manual pitch pot to the right. One or both of these were the problem.
Excellent! :thmbsp: You may have to improvise on the rubber spring covers--maybe pipe insulation or some kind of rubber hose.

Howard, You are definitey one sharp man! (coming up with these slick suggestions-advice)

I hearby award you with a PhD in "Analog" Sciences, magna cum laude, you are a awarded a BA, an MA, and you're also a "BMF!" and a few other awards which slip my old age memory at the time being! lol

Mark, you forgot BFS. (Big fat slob), but of course you've never met me.
What's a BMF? That doesn't really sound too good. :scratch2: :D

Do you know the main purpose of the rubber covers? I'm thinking pipe insulation would be too stiff. What did you have in mind when you said it?

It's to dampen the springs. You could possibly just wrap tape lightly around the existing rubber just to hold it in place and keep it from further deteriorating.. I was just thinking of rubber things that are shaped like that. Maybe it would be too stiff.

Well, that's why I ask. Wasn't sure if they actually played a part in damping or were just covers so springs would not contact metal directly, or both. Mine are so shot (shredded/disintegrated) that it's hard to tell if they did anything other than cover. Thanks.

Wow you guys really seem to like this table, don't you? I picked-up a not fully functional (runs slowly) PL-630 couple of months ago when going out to buy yet another R2R on CL. I'm not normally a DD TT guy, but for $15, I simply couldn't resist what appears to be a very well-built unit. No V15 cartridge though... :sigh:

One of these days I'm going to fix this thing, and see how its sound compares against my Linn LP-12 and Thorens TD-126 MkII. :scratch2:

I think that you will be very suprised how this unit will compare if it is brought up to spec.

As we've discussed, fixing it is as easy as opening it up and spraying deoxit on the controls. See, that's the beauty of DDs! And definitely looking forward to that comparison.

Ya! Time to open the hood and clean it up. Deoxit was all it took for me, and Howard :ntwrthy: directed me from experience with the same thing. I do want to hear your comparison of a $15 table vs. Linn/Thorens. I think we are going to raise the value of PL-630s just by this thread. ;) I have a black Grado F3 I took off another table on mine just for testing, while I make my mind up on the Ed Saunders vs. JICO stylus for the V15 IV, but think I will slap on a Stanton 681EEE I have on my old Dual 521 down in the basement and see some improvement. Gotta put something decent on it, although the new Linda Ronstadt "Simple Dreams" album I found gave me goose bumps even with the Grado. :music:
