New system info

Hello all,

New to this format.. I’m just starting to rebuild a nice system... I have the opportunity to pair a Marantz 2270 with a nice pair of HD 880 speakers.. is this a good match ?

Yes, both are good. Many people will down Marantz speakers, but they did make good speakers and those particular ones were designed by Ed May of JBL fame.

So... I didn’t get the Hd-880’s... so my search continues... looking for suggestions.., I have a 2000 Sq ft. room with 16 ft ceilings.... big man cave... what do you all suggest... I have 150 wpc available to drive them...

If you are in south central MI, you have convenient access to a lot of the population centers where things show up on Craigslist; GR, K-zoo, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Det. metro. Keep your eyes peeled, be patient and things will present themselves. In the meantime there is a ton of info to be found here on AK. Welcome to the forum.

So apparently you didn't get the Marantz 2270 either since it's only 70 watts per channel. And since you haven't been on here in half a month, I'm assuming you've answered your own question and already got something, or...

Didn’t get the 2270... still looking for one... I do have the 150 available in another amp... still looking for some good speakers... I have bought a couple sets and am finding what I like and dislike... it is definitely a process...

A 2000 sq ft room with ceilings twice the normal residential standard? That's a big space. I wonder if a pair or two of pro speakers (powered or passive) would be better. I’d think a single pair of home speakers would make a really loud listening area near them when trying to get decent coverage for the rest of the space.

What’s in the rest of the room? How close are you going to be to the speakers? Couple questions to consider

The 2270 is waiting for me in Miami... I will pick it up in a couple of weeks ! In the mean time I scored a very nice 2325 that will go with this nicely to push the sound.

The room will be a large auto showroom type of space... I am planning on 4-6 pairs of good speakers on stands to get them above the cars in the room.. the internal walls will be metal siding...

Acoustically that will be a bit of a mess. Echoes off the metal walls will wreak havoc with the sound. Any way to do some wall hangings, or something to dampen the reflections?

My friend has a 1500 sq ft barn that he put some used Klipsch KLF30s in. Fills the space and sounds great.
