New Thorens TD 145 Arrived!

Ok, so, far, so great. Packed beautifully. In amazing shape. New interconnects and a brand-new cover (the original was included too). And it sounds fantastic. Not bad for $450 - shipping and Ortofon Super OM20 included.

The only issue I have is that the tonearm doesn't seem to want to stay in the tonearm rest very well. Breathe on it, and it moves out of the clip. Is there a remedy for this?

Looking at the rest, you might be able to warm it up and bend the top down and let cool to see if it will take a new set. If not, maybe some material attached to the inside of the top to prevent the arm from sliding out. Felt pad material is what I might try.

Btw, it does seem to be running a hair fast. Is that a belt thing? Or does it indicate a motor issue?

It wasn’t. But it seems to be functioning well.
does the table have the two holes to the outside edges that are for a screwdriver to go in and move those two captured transport screws? If so, the guy packing it did well but loses marks for lack of tightening those. All one has to do is look in the manual for unpacking and go backwards...modding things for not having the original packing material. That is one reason I like the Philips AF tables, a few thumb twist knobs sticking up from the under platter area, hard to miss.

If it is not a real Thorens belt from a Thorens supplier (Q-audio in CT) it will not run the right speed as the belt is too thick/thin, too wide/narrow and too long/short to work properly.

Oh no, another new thread when the belt arrives!!

Not really, you should be fine with the new rubber on the machine.

Another in what will likely be a series of dumb questions, but what are these things? I assumed one is the 45 adaptor, but what is the other?

Also, with belt drive turntables like this, they seem to be calibrated for an exact platter weight. Would adding a turntable weight affect speed accuracy? Are they recommended or no?

Personally, I'd use a lightweight clamp instead of a weight.

The other one is it an AR 45 adapter?

The stepped one fits nicely in the table and flips over to be used with 45s. I really liked the sound of my TD-160 Super with a Herbie's mat on it. I don't think it makes as much difference on the TD-125, though. Also in the comparo were the Platter Matter and the Marcof Glass Mat. Both were not as good as the Herbie's but better than the stock mat, on my tt at that time and place to both listeners.

Right. But would the extra weight of the weight cause a speed error?

BTW, I strobed it, and it's only just slightly fast. But my ears can hear it, so it's bugging me a bit. Hopefully the new belt will cure this.
