New-to-me Realistic TT

Picked up straight-arm Realistic 395 TT for $14 at GW. Stylus is marked RS 5T and is shot. Cartridge is all black with Shure stamp but model label is gone. Please help with ID on cartridge. Thanks.

You'll find many fans of Rat Shack gear here. The cartridge is probably a Realistic R47ED, and replacement stylus' are still very much available.

Correct. The cartridge is the same as a Shure M75 and can use any stylus for that family. Shure don't make styli for those anymore but some other companies sell copies, the main ones being Jico, Astatic, EVG and Pfanstiehl, with quality and preference usually being perceived in that same order.

Pfanstiehl is terrible in my opinion; I hated them back in the 80's and still do. Also be cautious in purchasing styli from Ed Saunders. I've gotten good, and I've also gotten bad. It seems like a crap shoot.

the last Ed Saunders I got has dreadful sibilance issues. Not a fan at all.
