Next restoration: Yamaha PC2602M

The fixed resistor can not be removed. Use a smaller value and do not exceed the maximum led current. You can also remove the variable resistor.

You will gain some brightness with white LEDs,maybe yellow or orange? but, since the LEDs dont spread light much, I would tried to find some narrow LED-strips in "full height".
With "normal(bright)" LEDs, the display will be "dotted".

Hello amr2. Amazing work.....!!! :rockon::rockon::rockon:

I recently lost the heart of my HiFi, my beloved Yamaha MX-1000. As I prepare for repair, a pc2602m appeared on the way.
It is about 1,300 km from my house so it will be a blind purchase in terms of sound. In your opinion, what can I expect from this beast? Sound like the MX-1000?

I appreciate your response in advance.

Thank you! Sorry for the late response...
I could not compare this amp with my other stuff in full range. I use it to power a DVC 15'' subwoofer. It’s a sealed sub with a linkwitz transform to extend the low end. It needs an amp with a lot of control. This beast works very well in this scenario, it produce a very accurate bass.

Thank you I appreciate your reply amr2....!!!!

Do you have a blog where you describe the repair of the MX-1000?

Excellent....!!!
It would be of great help for me to make some inquiries in Spanish about the MX-1000 and the replacements for its repair.
Can I bother you with a private message?

Hello
This is an excellent job! Thank you for sharing!!

I own a PC 2602 and while recapping PS board capacitors i found out that ihave some diferrent values than the ones you are mentioning on the C 417,C418 positions.
I see 100uf 35v caps on both positions while in your list the values are 470uf 35v.
Unfortunately the service manuals' parts list is not mentioning these caps at all.

I would be gratefull if you could help me out with this.

Thank you

Hello, thank you very much :)

C417-418 appear in the schematic, C417=470/35 and C418=100/35. My unit had 470/35 in both positions, and they where OEM, so I replaced them with the same value.

Hello all.
I recently embarked upon replacing the bulbs in the power display myself. I chose the following red LED's (there's a downloadable datasheet link on the page) https://www.altronics.com.au/p/z0710-red-6mcd-3mm-through-panel-led/
I used the diagram provided by member amr2
https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?attachments/img_1140-jpg.881676/
however I chose to omit the variable resistor. I used all other components and values as shown along with a 1N4004 diode shown, but not specified on the diagram, and powered the string using the original 12v AC supply.
The result - well, it was the first time I'd ever seen the meter display working on my amp without using a torch - awesome - nearly perfect. I wider distribution LED would have been better, as in low light conditions there are obvious spots that reveal the light source location. But as for brightness - perfect. Visible in daylight, and not over bright or distracting in the dark of night that I and many often enjoy. Compared to other Yamaha power amps I have - M60 for example, these are slightly dimmer.
I'm keen to give the old girl a decent clean-up and overhaul now that I've become familiar with the chassis and componentry. My unit remains otherwise unmodified, although it has had some dry joint repair in it's history on both main boards.

Hi restoring this amp too.
Maybe some one has an opinion on this.
On schema and on both amplifier boards base reaistors R131 and R132 have different value. 330 ohm an 33 ohm. See attached scematic.
Normally in an amplifier I expect that these are the same. Yamaha error?
Can you please check your pc2602 on this?

Without any expertise, I guess they are current-limiting resistors, and make up for the difference in NPN/PNP ... ?
