I don't suggest that you stack A-25's based on Mr. Peasron's review. My point is that there are viable stacked systems. Mr. Pearson had nothing much to gain by his comments.
Advent isin't a big advertiser in TAS. What do you say when your opinion about a certain piece of equipment aligns with Mr.Pearson's opinion? Say he's right only certain times?
If I were to post that "Joe Average" has a stacked XYZ system, I don't believe that would carry any weight, at least to the junkie's. Hell, I don't think it does anyway, but..., at least the info comes from a fairly reputable source, about the original landmark system.
Some Ak'ers are content with what they have, whatever it may be. Some of us swap out components a lot to achieve the best system, and that, to do what we like most: listen to and enjoy recorded music.
Some spend thousands of hours on research, chasing the illusive absolutely perfectly flat (measured) speakers or whatever it is they're after.
I fall into the middle group, envy the first group and try to keep a cautious perspective on the third, so I don't end up getting sucked into a cycle of letting machines rule over what my own ears tell me.
I've been a member of other audio sites, that while on first glance claim to be about Heritage, but if you look closer, and don't have pretty much exactly what a small group recommends, you've missed the mark and they'll let you know it in a not-so-kind way.
So, I support AudioKarma. 20k + and growing. Diversity. Respect. SUPERB Moderators and Administration. I'm glad that I can express my thoughts and not get trampled on because I don't fit the mold.
Some people will gleen useful ideas from this thread, some will continue to stack to their hearts desire. My hope is that they can continue to do so, post about it, and be proud to share their stuff, whatever that may be.
I had the occasion to visit another site's speaker GURU. I was there with 2 of my friends. I brought serveral of my reference CD's, so I could do a fairly proper evaluation. I was willing to give credit, where credit is due. This guy's system had all the goodies, and was set up with CLIO. Had TAD Beryillium drivers, with JBL SUB1500 subwoofers. Antique Audio 845 tube monobloc's, DEQX crossover, the works! It sounded HORRIBLE! Lifeless, Bass-less, the sonic equivalent of Battleship Gray paint.
I still respect that it is his system, and if that's what he likes, so be it. The kicker is that this guy is supposed to be a GURU. When we all got into my truck to leave, we didn't say a word, but just looked at each other with the same puzzled look, and then laughed really hard.
Three people with different musical tastes, backgrounds and system configurations. A unanimous conclusion.
If it wasn't for the fact that this guy is supposed to be "it", I don't think the impact would have been near as great.
So you see that just because someone posts a bunch of data, doesn't mean that you cannot thoroughly enjoy your own system just like it is, or how you want it.
Likewise with the data. I think it's just fine that some may really benefit from it.
Just be careful.
