When I started College all the cute girls were wearing Connells T-shirts, as well as my best friend. I still can't say I've heard them more than one time. They were pretty big though, if t-shirts are anything to go by, in the college-rock scene in '93.

You have a good memory. I saw at least 200-300 shows in the 80s that were mostly lesser known and underground bands,not to mention the other shows that were more mainstream. I can't remember them all-some of them are best forgotten about anyway.
I wasn't lucky enough to see so many bands live. However, I did see quiet a few at CBGB and other venues in the city and I had many friends heavily involved in the music scene that were always introducting me to new bands. Those were great days, exciting times to hear a great new band.

Good bands, but the place was truly a pit. Roaches everywhere (of every kind too) and the neighborhood back then was also a pit.

I liked their earlier album, "Horse Gum Tortilla Shoes". It's here on vinyl, best cut was "Plain Truth".
Lots of the others mentioned here were groups that my bands or friend's bands opened for at CBs or other NY clubs at that time. Wendy O once tried to walk/run out off CB's stage onto those wobbly little cocktail tables, and fell down in a rather dramatic flailing of limbs.
Squirrel Bait? Mission of Burma? Can't remember what's already been mentioned. Prong, Voivod, Half Japanese, X, Everything But The Girl...I'll think of more.
I ran sound for a Gun Club tour in the late 80s, too, not sure if you'd lump them into this mix, too.

Yes! Great call John! The Chameleons are one of my favorite bands, I also like some of the solo stuff that Mark Burgess has done. One of my all-time favorite albums is Strange Times, it's been very inspiring to me in the past.
I have a couple to add. One is a band I love that not very many people seem to know about called And Also the Trees, which is something I urge any fans of the Cure to listen to, since in their early days And Also the Trees tried to fashion their sound after what the Cure was doing in the early 80s.
The next one doesn't quite fit into the post-punk or new wave category, but they're another one of my favorite bands and for some reason I always associate them with this type of music: The Church. They're from Australia, they've released albums from the early 80s to the present, and just about every single one is amazing.
