I was in a bunch of bands through this time, and worked a lot as FOH sound or guitar tech, too. Got to see a lot of good shows just 'cause I was in clubs so much.

It's actually kind of weird now to have to pay to get in.

A friend of mine saw that there were bands called the Minutemen, Meatmen, and Meat Puppets, so he wanted to start a band calle the Minute Puppets...

54-40 had some good material, and was pretty prolific mid 80's through early 90's. Our city's best live drunken party band for many years. :) Still pretty good live, actually. TPOH was essential university material, as was Sloan (love that guitar on 'Losing California' when it's up way loud).

My Mother-In-Law's here now, so I've moved on to Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli.

OK.. I gotta add some of my favorites, along with all the normal ones.. I'll try and keep them to obscure..

The Exploited was a great band and show.. The Bad Brains had a fair following but never made it real big or too well known..

Cabaret Voltaire was another of my favorites..

The Flying Lizzards didn't get popular until the early 90's it seemed..

Gotta love the Creatures too.. The Retrosexuals were a pretty fun and different band

I was a big CCCP fan.. Then along the same lines was Micro Chip League

Front 242 was my favorite band back in the early 80's..

Placebo rocked.. and can't forget FEOTUS.. which ever project they had going..

Then there was Saxon, but they were considered heavy metal. but they did have a hell of a punk speed to their music..

Gotta love Tones on Tail, but that tuerned into Love and Rockets, which wasn't a bad thing..

Not many people talk about the Stranglers any more...

The Cadillac Tramps... One of the best punk rock bands to ever come out of Orange County, CA. They never got anywhere NEAR the recognition they deserved. Unfortunatly they had a bad record deal and all four of there first releases are no longer available anywhere. All you can get now is there "LIVE' album which still kicks ass. Also one the best bands to see live ever. I used to know Gabby the singer and have met a couple of other guys in the band. Very cool people.

HVY DRT was another great band from around here. Also a bunch of cool guys.

Aversion was another one. I went to high school with these guys.

The Meanies were a band that used to party in my crowd. We all used to go to Scotts house while they practised and get lit up.

Guttermouth was another one of the great ones.

I could go on and on with bands from O.C. there were ALOT of great ones that were based within ten miles of me. Most of us O.C. Punks new each other and hung out together. Plus one of my best freinds was one of the guys who founded Triple X records so I knew alot of bands from there too.
 
I don't know if they have been in one of the long lists posted, but my biggest discovery in the last couple of years that I have gotten the most mileage out of is The Clean. The Anthology that was put out on Merge is amazing. I have also branced out with all the various members side projects the biggest probably being Bailter Space.

Also Agent Orange... I can't believe this band hasn't been mentioned yet. If anyone wants to hear an interesting story about their song "Bloodstains" let me know.

Since the original thread was punk based, I am a little disappointed
unless I missed it, not to see D.O.A. On the list. A true home town boy who left his mark.
