Official AR Turntable Owners Thread

It's easy to find 0.125" drill bit (1/8") but 0.0855" drill is impossible to find. I think I can see why Marc went with the v3.18.

WRT question #7, it's not unusual to find different thicknesses and different numbers of discs in the bearing wells. I think they may have been used to shim the tonearm height.

I think I used a metric drill bit. but it was close to the size of the jewel, just slightly larger .

Regarding number 7) , You must have the older inferior stamped T bar, the cast T bar has metal bearing wells .

I have no experience with the delrin bearing wells .

I have a really early XA two-motor (serial number starts with TT) where the platter well is the metal sleeve surrounded by delrin type known for shrinking with age. That can be saved with a two-step hand-reaming process. This was several years ago so I would have to look up the sizes, but I think it was .3750 chased by a .3770 reamer.

Working on a XB with some minor motor noise without belt (no motor noise with belt). One tiniest possible drop of oil on top of the motor shaft fixed it. Funny, I thought that was a myth or wishful thinking, but totally worked. (I used blue lake zoom spout oiler that I remembered I had in the closet from years ago.)

Does anybody have a good source in the US for Linn springs and mounting hardware. I've been looking to do the suspension mods on my XA for almost a decade know but haven't had any luck getting parts

I have looked at there store before, they don't carry the linn springs though. I see the original replacements and the heavy duty, but neither to my understanding matches the linn springs that you add 3lbs to in Marcmorin fashion

Those are the Linn springs. You cannot find original tensioned AR in new condition any longer as far as I know.
Here is the ones from the actual web site .

Dave takes good care of AR owners. His springs are the real deal. My AR The Turntable really appreciated the results of replacing the old springs. Everyone is steering you in the right direction. Enjoy, and get 'er done. :)

interesting why don't the vinynirvana springs mention adding weight? From what i recall Marc said the springs are to stiff without 3lbs

I do have an ES-1 and XB that Marc modded. Both have Linn springs and the additional weight on a plate. His earlier weights were round biscuit shapes, later went to flatter rectangular forms to better fit under a stock plinth and I believe he also said they were easier to balance the weight distribution.

I don’t know why, but for myself, I didn’t add weight, because I wanted to use a record weight. When I add that my table is at a good height doesn’t scrape, and certainly doesn’t move much. On its support (two cutting boards stacked with marbles) it is solid and I can walk next to it and no movement. BTW; My Record weight is from GEM Dandy, George Merrill’s product. He also supports AR Mods. Analog Emporium is his web site. I use his mat too. All with excellent results.
