Man, another beautiful AR!

There is something to be said about the ARs and why they are coveted by so many people. The simplicity of the turntable sitting in a wood plinth/base, and playing your favorite vinyl, the warmth of the musical tones reminds me of a nice mug of coffee or hot chocolate on a cold winter evening.

Simplicity at its best! :music:

I would love to see more pics as well, and if you have them, especially some detail shots of how you modified the sub-chassis in order to mount the Jelco tonearm. This is one very nice looking turntable. Well done!

As requested, here are the pics. The four little screws hold the main aluminum arm board,which is mounted to an acrylic base(built by Radgear). The third pic shows the mat, which a combo of cork and plastic(also built by Radgear)and works very well. The only thing I want to change is the power switch which I don't find very attractive. I just haven't found one I like yet.

Hello all...

I was recently gifted an AR EB101 from a friend. I don't know much about it, aside from the fact that it needs new springs (ordered from Vinyl Nirvana) and a new stylus for the Shure V15VxMR cart it came with. Other than that it's in great shape, having been securely packed away in my friends basement for 10 years.

Any recommendations on the stylus? Also anything else I should know? This will be my first attempt at any sort of table maintenance, so feel free to consider me clueless.

Received My second AR today. An AR XB in stock configuration. I tell you I am loving these things.

That XB is in good condition. So, is the other AR stock as well? How long did it take you to get two ARs?
 
Both are stock for now. The XA tonearm is going to Mr. Morin this week and the XB is going into a custom made oak veneered MDF base when I get a chance to do the change. It took me about 3 weeks to land the two. It was love at first listen/sight!
 
Have you thought about a wood plinth/base instead of veneer? I'm not sure but Marc could possibly help you out, that is if you're interested. If I had the choice, I would choose wood. My ES-1 came with a cherry plinth/base, and the one I have being built will have a walnut plinth/base.
 
Perhaps at some point in the future I will go with solid wood. Right now the gear fund is depleted some and I have to do some "required" things to each table. The new one needs a tonearm rebuild and a new stylus, the other one is getting the tonearm rebuild this week as I mentioned above.

You could replace the stylus with another Shure stylus that will fit your cartridge, or you could replace the cartridge. I'm sure others who are familiar with Shure could help you with the right stylus to choose.

Please post pics of your AR once it arrives. Will you be doing any upgrades/mods, or will you leave it stock?

Of all the ARs you've posted, I don't think there is a bad one in the bunch. Do you have any more you can share with us?

BTW, the XA with the Infiniity arm, what mat did you have on that one. That looks very interesting.

Received this one in the mail, wasn't in great condition before it was shipped to me. Was poorly packed and came in pretty much as bad as it could get. All the corners on the plinth were split, tonearm and rest broken, vinyl veneer peeling, what a mess.



After a little TLC a very usable XB
