Official Grateful Dead Thread

8/27/72....The only flaw in the film is the seemingly never ending presence of the "naked hippy dude" grinding with the pole in the background....wish I could brush him out of there!! lol Awesome stuff tho, that Birdsong is unreal.

Check out the Philly show 9/21/72 and the Stanley Theater show 9/27/72 a month later. en fuego

Amazing sound for a 45 year old recording :thmbsp:

edit - listened to it twice in a row and it's inspired me to get more shows with Cream Puff War

For Jon McIntire, a Word or Two

What word will do
to gesture toward
the dark gathering
of mutual mystery,
said of the unseen
by saying nothing?

Beyond utterance,
speechlessness
hoping to be heard
by a keener ear,
before any word
was ever spoken,
dies broken like night
by a single shaft of sun.

Silence past Summer,
unmurmuring Spring,
Autumn unmentioned,
Winter, mute, or that
other season: Humanity
wherein we dwell,
listening, listening,
sometimes ceasing
to mere appearance.

Not far to go,
a simple step
into forever. . .
Off then, goodnight,
into sheer light
beyond any season
known to the moon.

RIP Jon, you were all class, all family

Just threw on the 4/8/72 Dark Star on as my sunday tribute

Mowgli - By chance, for those that probably won't end up with a '72 boxset, can you possibly recommend a show or two to be ordered seperately? The more I read... :-)

Bickershaw 5/7 and Rotterdam 5/11 are my faves, altho the Dark Star from 4/8 is sublime and was my choice this am for listening/ to show my respects for Mr McIntire after all he did for our scene.

Thanks Fish! Who would have ever thought (back in the day) that you'd see a release like this? It's really amazing to me. :scratch2: All good too! :thmbsp:

There really isn't a "lame" show on that tour but Bickershaw 5/7 might be the best

Now if I can just get the Stones to release every show from their '72 tour. Then I'd be set!

Not sure if they're from that tour but I remember the Nasty Music boot as being very good.

The Brussels 73 shows were great also IIRC

Here's a quote about my best stones bootleg LiveR Than You'll Ever Be

"Shortly after the release of "The Great White Wonder", the Rolling Stones played a concert at the Oakland Coliseum that was the talk of the West Coast. The show was taped and released in bootleg form with the title "Liver Than You'll Ever Be." It was an outstanding recording of a great performance and it was immediately recognized by fans, and by critics, as far superior to the official Stones live album. The record was reviewed in many publications and treated with all the seriousness that a legitimate release would warrant. The record sold even faster than The Great White Wonder and the legitimate record companies began to take notice."

More OT...

I'll go out on a limb and also recommend Led Zeppelin

Don't Mess With Texas 69
Blueberry Hill 70
Destroyer 77 &
Listen To This Eddy 77

There was also a Japanese 11 CD box set of studio outakes that's the shizznat if you're a Zeppelin freak (Antrabata label)

Here's a good collection of LZ "Baker's Dozens" http://www.uuweb.led-zeppelin.us/bakers_dozen.html

You like BIG Unofficial releases?

PINK FLOYD A TREE FULL OF SECRETS - the definitive Pink Floyd rarities compilation is about 17 CDs
