Official Grateful Dead Thread

On the 12/28/69 rec:
Listened to it today and enjoyed it. '69 has a lot of energy and that really came through for me on China Cat, Hard to Handle, and Mason's Children. Lots or really great playing.

Phil's vocals are always a little disconcerting for me, not so bad when he's lower in the mix or accompanied by Donna, and the setlists of the era aren't my favorite, but it definitely has that lysergic electricity x factor appeal.

I played a few Europe 72 shows yesterday
Aarhus, Tivoli & Bremen, 4/16, 4/17 & 4/21

What are some of everyone’s alltime favorite shows? Always looking for recs to check out. I’ve been pretty stable with 4/24/78, 5/14/78, and 5/7/77 over the past while. Landover ‘90 and 5/9/77 are consistently way up there for me too.
3/28/90 (night before Branford) and 7/15/88 are two more under-the-radar darkhorses I particularly like.

Lately I've been playing "Listen To The River Fox Theater St. Louis ‘71 ‘72 ‘73" & the Here Comes Sunshine 1973....

11/1/69 was sonic trash. 12/10/69 is very good.

Bringing this Furthur so I can track it easier.... (again)

Here's the list of shows I've played since I started this thread.
I'm trying to play all my GD live shows and have bounced from era to era and added many so this should help keep track.
This will be a work in progress...

Heard positive recommends on this one, so I bought a copy off ebay last week
Dick's Picks #23 - Baltimore Civic Center - 9/17/72 (3 CD set)
Really good from what I've had a chance to listen to so far.

Can't quite figure what my first Dead show was - (I thought it was late winter or Spring of '72 at the Balt Civic Center - but I'm figuring it had to be 3/26/73) -
I think it was a Wall of Sound show - but I was pretty out of it that night - 50+ years ago!
My 2nd show was RFK Stadium in DC - June 10, 1973 with the Allman Bros Band ... (got CDs of that show, both bands) Def Wall of Sound era!

Saw them somewhere around 74-75 st the Cap Center and THEY were pretty out of it - lots of noodling between songs and
it seemed like they couldn't figure out what to play next. Skipped them for a number of years after that.

Later on caught a pair of shows (Friday & Monday) during the never ending Touch of Grey Tours at the Cap Center - I think that became the release
"Terrapin Station 03-15-90 Capital Centre, Landover, MD" (Got those CDs as well)

Hard to go wrong with September ‘72! Or spring ‘90, especially Landover.

Good score on the Dicks.

So I do a search for Grateful Dead Balt Civic Centre 3/26/73 - just in case thats the spring Bal'mer show I half recall, and I see its
Dave's Picks Vol. 54: Baltimore Civic Center, Baltimore, MD 3/26/73!
So I preordered that this morning (Release Date: 25 April, 2025)
Near as I can figure that '73 Balmer show was one of the partial Wall of Sound shows - but the RFK Stadium Dead/Allmans show in June was full Wall -
I'd never heard anything like that before or since - Jerry playing with echo and bouncing a note around the stadium - whew!
