Grateful Dead- Dick’s Picks vol. 20
9/25/76 & 9/28/76

The second set of 9/25 is an absolutely sublime slice of Dead with a couple notable rarities. All time best Sugar Magnolia in my opinion. Can’t remember how good the 9/28 show was, but I’ll find out soon.

Edit: the sound absolutely sparkles

Sometimes at their most brilliant, everything just converges into these incredible moments of cosmic love and it sounds like sunshine coming through the speakers. This is one of those shows.

This show boasts, in my opinion, all-time best (or damn close) versions of a solid quarter of the songs performed. Sugaree rivals 5/5 in sweetness but is much longer and fuller, Franklin’s even beats out 5/9 in delicacy and development. Peggy O is as poignant as the best of them. Just to name a couple.

Had the privilege of celebrating Bob’s life on Saturday with a top rate dead band, Terrapin Flyer. They played a whole show of Bobby tunes and it was incredible- not ashamed to admit Queen Jane coaxed more than a couple tears. I’ve seen them many times and this was a total highlight. Emotions were high and they captured the mood perfectly.

Such an evocative performance made me reflect on how truly fleeting life is. An ephemeral and hopelessly brief breath in the infinite expanse. My thanks to those like Bob who use this limited time to spread such beauty and love.

As this generation of visionaries departs for the great beyond, we find ourselves at the helm. It’s up to us to continue spreading the music and joy. Support live music, support local music, support your community, and stay grateful. It’s on us to keep this great tradition alive.

Hope that didn’t sound preachy, not my intent.

Post-Brent dead isn’t my favorite but sometimes the melancholy hits just right

I just jammed on 4/24/78 TMNS and found this playlist.
Looks good, I see May 77, Winterland 77, This Dick's Picks 18 kinda smokes,...

You just picked two of my alltime favorite shows right there. 4/24/78 and the Dicks Picks Vol 18 show(s). Definitely a high point for TMNS too. A couple of the few competitors with the likes of 5/7/77.

Love the Good Lovin and Samson on that DP too. Spring ‘78 is so underrated!
