Official Jolida JD9 thread

Installed 2 OPA627 from Digi-Key in the 'output' this afternoon (#s 1 & 2 from pic) :music:

The JD9 is as quiet as a church mouse... I knew this from the get-go.
Back to the :music:

This is good news. I'm just about to order opamps myself. Just a pair to start. So these 627s you got are not Burr Brown, but something else, yes?

I've been looking at Burr Brown 637s or AD843KN's but maybe I don't need to spend that much money since the Digikey 627s are less expensive and provide a significant improvement. :scratch2:

Can you say more about the improvement you're hearing? Has it improved timbres? Soundstage? Curious minds want to know...

I'd welcome a lower noise floor. Mine hisses too. Not enough to hear from the listening seat, but still enough to affect the overall presentation IMO.

Clarification required please!
Of each of the op amps suggested for replacement, OPA627, AD843, LT1028, there are several "types" listed for each model number on the Digikey website. Can anyone clarify the optimum choice for use in the JD-9?

Regards,

Hey bigdirty...

I take it these are added caps to the stock power supply caps ?

What are their values; 1, 2, 3 & 4

Thanks

hey frank,

they are all 1uf. I used that value because I had them around. Im sure if you search the googles you can find some conversation about values for electrolytic bypass caps.

Right now those bypass caps are not soldered in my JD9. I do plan to put them back in.

Thanks, BD

Next time I open up my JD9 I may try that (bypass caps)

I'm almost 100% sure I will replace the other 4 opamps and while I'm at it I may redo the output caps. Mine already had auricaps 'upgrade' but the Obbligato Gold Premium Caps
seem to be a hit on another forum ;)

Since the JD9 is considered by many as one of the best phono stages under $500 and is such a popular option among the budget minded and DIY/modders alike, I figured Id start one of these here in an attempt collect all the information we can gather on the Jolida JD9.

Ill start by asking, what is your current JD9 setup?
What tubes have you rolled?
What have you found to be the best settings on the dip switches?
and what are your overall impressions of the Jolida JD9?

I attached the JD9 settings sheet which I have found very helpful.

Just bought a Marantz TT-15s1. i do own a JD9. now i need to find the correct Cartridge and tubes. i do want a deeper bass. does anyone have a sugestions what would be a good match?

Hi,
I'm just been set up my JD9 had some noise "hum" 120Hz from the DAC Zero 24bit 192KHz with opa627 and Musilland Monitor 01 USD have to turn it off when playing vinyl and no more hum.Got some Tung-sol tubes very good improvement. Also have a pair of jantzen audio Superior Z-cap 800VDC 1.0uf +/_2% should I use them for output cap?And I also order a pair of OPA627AP.So far I really like the sound with the new tubes but I don't if I should do the caps the jantzen are great in speaker crossovers and I don't have the money to spend on big money caps like the Clarity Cap MR 1.0 uF.I'll install the OPA627 at(#s 1 & 2 from pic) and listen then put in the caps.Cartridges so far are Denon DL103R and DL160 both have been little hard to set up the gain one a little to hi and the other little to low so i live with little to low my Creek Evo 5350 has a no gain preamp before the amp.
DL103R
100 resistance switch on#2
gain switch on #1
Hi output
DL160
47K resistance on#4
gain switch off
Hi output
I'm waiting for a DL301mkII ordered from comet supply witch I think will be easier to get because it's output is 0.4mV so with the same setting as the DL103r the JD9 output to the Creek should be just right.

The Obbligato Gold Premium Caps are getting very good reviews at another forum... They are $10.50 a piece at Parts ConneXion

I'm going to order some soon and give them a listen.

This thread is why over my head. But, here's a easy one for you guys. Having a hard time finding the correct setting on my jd9. I have a Marantz TT-15s1 and a clear audio aurum alpha.

im sorry i can not offer a better answer than the one im about to give. but ....here it goes..

....the "correct setting" is the setting that sounds best to YOU, on YOUR system in YOUR room. i feel like this goes for most home audio questions like this. the settings are there for the listener to tweek to HIS liking, alot of the time its personal preference.

having said that, a good starting point is 47k (switch 4 in the up position, everything else down) no gain and hi outputs.

if you need more gain add more depending what you need.

maybe someone else can chime in on a good starting point. but to my knowledge, 47k is pretty standard. from there i would just experiment, see what sounds best to you.

i usually give it a few days or weeks on one setting that i think i might like, get used to that sound before switching. makes it easier to notice the more subtle differences if your used to the way one setting sounds.

hope that helps. goodluck!

If you look at the chart offered in post#1 of this thread, You'll be able to figure out the starting point by matching the jolida's settings to those of your cartridge.

Looks like you'll have the #4 switches up to give you 47kOhm (47,000 ohms) of impedance (resistance)

And also the #6 switches on to get the 100pf capacitance.

As for gain setting. It's best to use the high outputs of this unit as they are a more direct signal from the output components. So hook it up using these and see which of the 3 gain switches gives you the strongest signal without distortion.

brett is correct, its switch 4 not switch 5 like i said. sorry for the confusion. i changed in in my original post.

I would suggest to try running all three gain switches down or off as this produces the LEAST amount of gain. I have been using this setting for a while and like the sound I get.

I did the same for my HOMC, and I agree, it sounded the best. I am running LOMC (~0.4mV) now, and I am using the lowest gain setting. That JD9 produces gobs of gain...

I have to run the middle gain switch with my LOMC AT-OC9MLII. Or else I run out of volume on my integrated.

The only switch I have up is the number 4, it's sounds a little brite.
I would like a little bass or depth. And tubes that would draw bass or other setting...maybe the cart is wrong and I should go to a mc
