Oh boy, do I want one of these!

While I think it beats that vertical TT we've seen discussed here in the past, my biggest issue with it is 'imitation wood'.

If you're going to go to the lengths of expense and engineering to get this table to function properly, why not finish it off in real veneer?

I'm curious how that magnetic suspension will handle Heavy Metal records
so long as the heavy metal doesn't contain Iron, Steel, 4 series Stainless, Cobalt, Samarium ,Nickel, etc. shouldn't be an issue.
Guess what happens when you spin an aluminum disc in a magnetic field.......;)

Hey, they incorporated a UPS into it to protect in case of power failures. That problem didn't occur to me! But I started :rflmao:-ing at the thought of the platter SLAMMING down onto the plinth if there was even a brief electrical power interruption!

BTW, how much does this cost? Is it even for sale? They were looking for donations at Kickstarter, but didn't see a price.

We’ve added platter feet, which allow the platter to rest in OFF mode. These feet automatically retract when you begin using the turntable. When the tonearm is placed back in its original position, the platter feet will automatically rise up and you can safely switch off the turntable.
Accidents happen, and we know that sometimes you may encounter a power outage, so we’ve designed the turntable with a UPS system. This solution stores enough power to safely lift the tonearm, stop the record, and return the platter feet to resting position.

It is not for sale (yet) it is a project!

The least expensive option on their Kickstarter page that's still available is $840.

Very cool idea and very simple, pretty design. I wish you well and hope you sell many. But my initial thought is "who cares?" Is it worth reinventing the wheel?
There's thousands of turntable variations out there since records have been invented and all of them do one thing: play records. And 99 percent of them do so very well.
It seems gimmicky to me, but I'm not a devout 'phile nor do I apparently possess the discerning ear for such subtleties. I wouldn't be your target market. The question is, is there enough out there who would?
Good luck!

It looks like the first 100 are sold out already, and the next batch of 100 is 90% sold.I dont see the motive of this table as much different than the old Bang and Olufsen systems.I think it is meant as a style piece first and formost. It seems pretty tempting to me.

I think we're mostly missing the point here -

As we all know, a large part of record buyers (up to 48% of them, in fact) will never actually listen to the records they bought. Many, of those, don't even own a turntable!

That's a huge market right there of people who see records and turntables as a design and lifestyle statement only, and this is a cool-looking and impressive solution for them.

Platter alignment? magnetic fields? disturbances? quality of parts? sound quality? - who cares?!

Nice looking but they will probably eventually end up being advertised for $19.99 plus S&H and if buy it now you will receive a 2nd one for free just pay S&H.

I have a whole lot of questions about that study.

Seems to me the point is the absolute quietest drive system with the least transmitted vibration possible. I imagine speed consistency might be extremely good, as well, since electrically varying a magnetic field can be done very precisely. It's a cool idea. Wouldn't want one, though. It reminds me of the Nakamichi RX-505 tape deck. Decent performer, nothing super special, but it would flip the tape over for you. Once it was shown in a big Hollywood movie a ton of folks just had to have one. It just seems unnecessarily gimmicky to me. Good luck to 'em. Hope they make a bundle on it.

So 190 are already out there somewhere and nobody here or on two or three other vinyl forums I check out has one or has ever seen one.

My first thought when I saw this TT was "Earnshaw, Earnshaw, Earnshaw." He's someplace getting a good laugh out of this.

No offense here but you clearly have not played or heard a RX-505. I would rank this deck in the top 10 of Nak decks.
