Olson

I've come across a very old driver but zero information exists on it. Has anyone heard of an Olson model S-711? We believe it is a full range speaker.

Someone made it for Olson. I don't know the Olson models by heart (believe it or not). Most likely it is either Asian (Japanese) OEM or Utah OEM... could be Jensen or EV (or other US) OEM, though. A photo would help tremendously.

If they look anything like this - probably Utah OEM and pretty mediocre (i.e., don't pay Altec Duplex prices for 'em)

Thanks mrh! We actually figured it might be a Jensen. I havent heard it yet but do you think it's worth keeping? If I use it, it'll probably be in a vented 2 way as a woofer. What do you think?

It's going to utterly depend on which driver it is, how much it costs, and whether you like it or not. I'd say that if it is Jensen OEM, the odds are better than if it's Utah OEM... but even then, that's to my tastes and de gustibus non est disputandum.

I understand. But at a certain point one can simply say, "this is a high fidelity driver" or not. Would you consider this hifi? Assuming it is the Jensen...

Probably (although their MI drivers were not really meant for, nor suited for, hifi).

Are you still out there? FYI, the Olson S-711 IS a high-quality, high fidelity speaker! It sounds as good as drivers costing many times as much. It is also very efficient.
