Once more Sansui transistor substitutions

You always need to consider transistor reference designator codes when you are researching "suitable subs". I haven't yet found anything definitive about KSA and KSC codes. Fairchild? Kennedy Space Center?

There is a good write-up on transistor designations here: https://www.elexp.com/Images/Reading_Transistor_Markings.pdf , but nothing about KSA or KSC.

The three standards listed are JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council), JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), and Pro-Electron (European).

Numbers in the JEDEC are assigned sequentially by dates, thus a higher number indicates a more recent design (or re-design!).

The JIS codes are the ones we see most often, and start with a "1" for diodes or a "2" for transistors. The next 2 letters are:

SA: PNP HF transistor
SB: PNP AF transistor . . .(Audio Frequency)
SC: NPN HF transistor
SD: NPN AF transistor . . .(Audio Frequency)
SE: Diodes SF: Thyristors
SG: Gunn devices
SH: UJT
SJ: P-channel FET
SK: N-channel FET
SM: Triac
SQ: LED
SR: Rectifier
SS: Signal diodes
ST: Avalanche diodes
SV: Varicaps
SZ: Zener diodes

The code for transistors always begins with "2S", and is sometimes omitted. So if you see a "C733" and cannot find any other info, try looking for a "2SC733".

Some manufacturers use their own codes like Motorola's MJE15032 (power transistor, plastic case) or Texas Instrument's TIP112 (power transistor, plastic case).

Maybe this will help someone - - -
Possible explanation for the "K" instead of "2"
To me the KSA and KSC looks like it could mean "Korea Samsung"?
Since it looks like it was all Samsung partnumbers, and 20 years ago Fairchild bought the Samsung electronics division.
At the moment, it seems KEC calls their 2SC945 transistors "KTC945"
You will find Samsung datasheets when using google and "samsung ksc1845"

Sounds plausible, but the "S" conforms to the original codes, so maybe the "K" is simply "Korea". Anybody else?

WTIC: Perhaps we will soon be deluged with a series of CS?1234 that are "Made in China" . Don't want to start an international incident by observing that this could also stand for "Counterfeit".

Here are a few I thought I would share as I'm researching and compiling some parts lists.

Format means OLD/OEM ==> NEW REPLACEMENT

NPN 2SC2578 ==> 2SC4467
PNP 2SA1103 ==> 2SA1694

NPN 2SD357(D,E) ==> 2SC4883/A 150V/180V
PNP 2SB527(D,E) ==> 2SA1859/A 150V/180V

NPN 2SC1735(D,E) ==> KSC2316YTA
PNP 2SA850(D,E) ==> KSA916YTA

NPN 2SD438(D,E) ==> KSC2316YTA
PNP 2SB560(D,E) ==> KSA916YTA

A few diodes and zener diodes

RD24F(B,C) / 1W ==> BZX85B24 / 1.3W 2%

RD18F(B,C) / 1W ==> BZX85B18 / 1.3W 2%

RD18E(B,C) 1/2W ==> BZX55B18 / 1/2W 2%

RD15E(B,C) 1/2W ==> BZX55B15 / 1/2W 2%

RD13E(B.C) 1/2W ==> BZX55B13 / 1/2W 2%

1S2473 ==> 1N4448

30D2 ==> EGP51D

10D-1 ==> EGP20B

Thanks for updated list. I have a SEVEN that I have yet to work on but I assume your list will be a good start toward that restoration.

No longer available, we should put substitutes which are available from regular suppliers such as mouser/digikey.

These are all available. The arrow, ==>, points to the new replacement part number. ;)

For some unknown reason Vishay changed the EGP50 line to EGP51. I have updated my list.

Not available at mouser.
Sorry I didn't check Digikey as I don't use them.....

KSC1845EBU = Obsolete

Superceded by = KSC1845FTA (PIN ORDER!!)
Must install them backwards of original 2SC1313 which is BCE the KSC1845FTA is ECB.

Thanks again this list is AWESOME! :)
Hi guy,s i,m looking for replacements for au 717 tone board tr01,tr02..tr05 tr06 which are listed as 2sa906 but don,t see any replacements listed for that number but i,m seeing 2sa 726 are in there and ksa992 are listed as replacents for those..is this correct???

2SA906 is only shown (on the Schematic) as used in the EQ or Phono Amplifier board F-2723 (not Tone Control board, F-2720).

KSA992 can be used as a replacement for either 2SA726 or 2SA906. ;)

If in doubt just type the type number '2SA906' into the AK search box (up on the top right) and hit 'search' doing this I just got 54 hits to choose from, many of them mentioning 2SA726 and the AU-717 as well. ;)

Sorry 1 and 2 are listed as 2SA798

The substitution list has KSA992 (120V, 50mA, 500mW, 100MHz) as a replacement for 2SA850 (100V, 500mA, 800mW, 130MHz) but its collector current rating is too low (50mA vs. 500mA). The listed KSA1013 (160V, 1000mA, 900mW, 50MHz) is better, but has a lower fT (50MHz vs. 130MHz). A better match may be found with the KSA916 (120V, 800mA, 900mW, 120MHz).

In case of 2SB527/2SD357 and 2SB526/2SD356, Mouser still carries TTA004B / TTC004B - looks like Toshiba will soon discontinue them

TTA004B / TTC004B - 160V / 1.5A / 1.5W / 140~280 hFE / fT 100MHz / Cob 12pF (17pF)

Excuseme..iam a new member in this forum iam from indonesia..i have a amplifier sansui au 217ii but the component many are broken..and i dont have a shematic..does anyone have the scheme and share it with me please
