Onkyo A-8450?

I would like to hear your feedback regarding the Onkyo A8450 amplifier. Is it a good choice for peak performance, or should I consider alternative options?

I love onkyo gear myself, find it very hard not to. Great specs, very low distortion, plenty of power generally good build quality etc.

I would like to hear your feedback regarding the Onkyo A8450 amplifier. Is it a good choice for peak performance, or should I consider alternative options?

The A-8450 is a decent integrated amp, and Onkyo made good stuff in the 80's, but I do not understand your meaning of "peak performance" ? It all depends on the rest of your system- what speakers do you have, what kind of inputs (streamer/CD/tuner/phono/etc) do you plan to use ? The A-8450 integrated amp only puts out 80WPC and was made 35 years ago, so it will likely need new speaker protection relays and new capacitors. I rebuilt my Onkyo M-508 amp (that I bought in 1986) just last year and had to replace all the capacitors, some small transistors and all the output transistors to make it reliable again.

This M-508 (200 WPC) is closer to "peak performance" than any of Onkyo's integrated amps, but it is only middling by todays performance standards, because it doesn't put out a lot of current like todays amps do. It cannot drive low ohm load speakers for very long before it shuts down- my Infinity RS4b speakers drop down to 3.2 ohms and would send the M-508 into protection quickly at high volume levels.
