Oppo BDP-105 or Schiit Audio Modi 2 Multibit? DAC comparisons.

And just to add, as far as my system being screwy... you're not even close
I have had a number of local AK members over at the house, and they really appreciate how good my system sounds.
So they must have screwy ears too?!?!
Again you're jumping to conclusions...
Regardless I'm growing tired of dealing with your biased and inaccurate opinions of me and my system or whatever else you've commented on.
Good luck with the attack the person defense... but obviously you find some sort of comfort in it

I think you learned an important lesson - never say anything bad about Schiit on an internet forum. Regardless of your first hand experience with multiple products, you don't like them so you're WRONG. Note I've owned two different Modis and a Bifrost MB and hated all of them, so you're not alone.

Sure... well I didn't say I didn't like them, but that's beside the point.
Personally I think it's more the flavor of the day.
Instead of having a civil discussion, they just choose to trash the poster.
And then on top of that they think it's some sort of contest on who wins or loses?!?
Weird... sad to say, I think those people need some professional therapy...
There's some good theories in what Schitt is doing, i'm just wondering if it couldn't be implemented better somehow?!
I mean you look at the advances in Audio sometimes things that come out right away particularly the CD didn't sound very good right away to a lot of people
That's not so much the case now..
Maybe it's not their preferred method of listening, but it's much better than when it first came out particularly on how things were recorded.
In my opinion, the equipment is a means to an end.
It's really not that important as long as it's doing what you want it to do, who really cares what the name on it is?
Or how it does it?
As mentioned, having a close mind seems to be a flavor of the day.
It's amazing how many people carry themselves that way with pride.
And at the same time criticizing, and trashing people for questioning things, that either are not really important , or need to be questioned.
I guess I'm just the complete opposite, I enjoy other people's opinions on how they look at things.
I don't enjoy being attacked personally, but I consider the source...
Most of those people have a hard time differentiating between opinions and facts.
In my opinion, we still would be back in the caveman days if people didn't question things, and want something better.
I guess if it was me, I would look at myself and wonder why I continually attacked people personally that didn't agree with me... instead of willing to have a interesting discussion and debate.
You don't convince anyone that your opinions are accurate, when you attacked them personally, it usually shuts them down.
That's one thing I continually try to work on, still carrying on a discussion with people that continue to do that.
I must admit I've had mixed results, and no doubt need to improve in that area.

Good grief, get off your soap box. I repeatedly said it was fine to like something else better. Automojo's description of the Bifrost was flat wrong. The timing off and even backwards. A narrow soundstage. Either the bifrost was defective, or hooked up wrong, or Automojo was simply trying to impress by exaggerating.

Carry on with your silly back slapping though, facts aren't that important where male bonding is concerned.

Jeff,
So let me see if I have this correct...because it sounds exactly like what I'm trying to do.

Hdmi out from Comcast cable box to the Oppo 205 hdmi input . Then hdmi out of the 205 to your tv for video only, plus optical out of 205 to amp, (or to DAC then amp) for audio ? Using the 205 as a preamp correct?

Then you select the right video source on your tv (for video) and the right hdmi source from the 205 (for audio)....and viola??

Do I have this right?

This is what I did..GINNY..
My system is simple, I'm still a newbie...

Tidal from IPad to
Apple TV , HDMI (AQ cinnamon) out to
OPPO 205 , HDMI ($15) out to T.V.
OPPO 205 , RCA out to
ODYSSEY Preamp , RCA out to
ODYSSEY stereo amp out to
TEKTON Seas Pendragon's
CullenCable Full Loom of silver coated copper

I had a Schiit Modi multibit it was okay but upgraded to the Gungnir (multibit out of stock at time of purchase).
The Gungnir was of acceptable HiFi quality, I really liked it , but it was too hot for my system..
(1) There was no low level volume control..(too hot)
(2). It was hard to reach the off switch in the back (TV Cabinet)
(3) No HDMI
These are non-audio related issues, just some features that I needed.

The OPPO solved all those issues and IMO sounds just as good, probably a little better ?? Not sure??
They are both great products but , the OPPO has way more features way more..

The Cables are a must , !!
with these TEKTON's I actually heard a difference as I replaced Components and Cables "really"
I didn't really believe all the talk on Cables but, without the cables I have now my system would be just average...

The CD player could be better,
But for a $1300 All In One unit "I'm Happy"
I don't watch movies on disc, if I could do it again..
I would probably buy a Modwright/OPPO Sonica DAC and search for a higher end CDP than the OPPO player..

Right. You hated it so you bought two more! :bs:

Well your last paragraph pretty much sums it up.
Facts are not important to you, just your own opinion, or people that think just like you.
Thanks for proving my argument...

That's what happens when you spend too much time reading Schiit threads, you buy one plug it in and don't understand what the fuss is all about and start thinking maybe you're an idiot, because everyone else is so happy, natural reaction is to try a unit level up to reassure yourself one way or another.

Gosh. What is it with some posters. Challenge them on some exaggerations that don't even make sense(the timing sounds backward) and out comes the Masada complex. Talk about drama.
Audio is full of opinions, and subjectives. Which by definition means there's no absolute.
And from what I've gathered I wouldn't expect you to understand unless it's on your line of thinking.
I wasn't objecting to the challenge, just the personal attacks.
You weren't interested in carrying on a conversation about my findings, just personal trashing.
And these weird passive aggressive threats.
As I mentioned earlier once you go down that road it's a turn off for most people and they're not interested in discussing information that might be helpful to others, or maybe even yourself.
That's the great thing about AK, most people have the ability to carry on those conversations and it's very helpful.
Apparently you haven't figured that out yet, that's too bad.

It's not him. It's you. I've never seen anything on an audio message board like this. Chill.

Yep. I was willing to give the brand a chance because people regard it so highly - maybe the higher price point items were better, etc. Live and learn. Thankfully I was able to sell the Bifrost MB on ebay for a decent price after Schiit refused to fix the USB when it broke for a second time. The Modi 2 uber is in a drawer somewhere.

Basically. I'd add that Schiit does a good job with price points (even if its due to cutting corners) that it can be hard to talk yourself out of them. I've owned a total of six Schiit products over the years because of this. Every one was a disappointment, but I will say the smaller cheaper boxes are at least a good value.

oh, ok. It didn't make sense to me when I read it. There's nothing wrong with preferring something else, the thread is about comparing, after all. I'm DAC less at the moment. The last one I had in my main system didn't sound any better than the one in my Marantz player.

Which Marantz deck?

It's an older CD6003. I think it has a cirrus logic chip. It sounds very good. I have different speakers now, revealing with high sensitivity so I'm thinking of trying another DAC for no good reason but fun. It'll be an inexpensive one.

Sure!!
I had a CD5001 for quite awhile.
I think it had a crystal chip.
I agree... it's fun to experiment.
I'm going to borrow a friends Maverick Audio D1 Plus... that sports all the upgrades. Around $250 shipped I think.
It also uses a older Crystal chip.

Thx Delta.

I have decided to go with the oppo sonica dac/streamer and will have it modded by Ric Shultz at tweak audio at a later date. I also plan to purchase an oppo up-203 as a transport and run it through the sonica's DAC.
I too will purchase a Tidal subscription.

Future amp will be one of the following:
Decware SE34I.5
Decware Torii jr
Decware SE84UFO
