Optimus subwoofer needs some work? Help

Here’s the pics of it looks like the woofer might need some extragalactic glue or whatever around the surrounds . Also seems like it has some stuff missing .
Any ideas on this subwoofer I don’t know anything about it??
Any info specs ? Can I run it via onkyo amp or does it need its own.


What type of glue. Do you add to woofer surrounds on spots were it’s falling off?-buyable in a local store?
Is this a front firing sub?

I'm not seeing the issue with the surround from your pics.

Yeah it’s not much of a sub , I saw other pics of similar subs with feet were were there are just screws in this one.
My old klh 10” is probably better due to being powered.

I know someone who had one of those RS subs. He used it with a pair of Mordaunt Short book shelf speakers. They were driven by an Adcom GFA-545/GTP-450. The sound was not unpleasant.

AFAIK he still has it although it's not in use.

It sounds good just it seems like hooking it from the surround have it too much power . How do you hook it to a onkyo 818? Woofer might need some extra glue on surrounds one side was starting to weaken . No rips tho in it.

If you're talking about the Onkyo TX-NR818, then IMO you're wasting your time. A receiver like that should be combined with a much higher quality subwoofer (and speakers to match). If it's some other Onkyo model, let us know the complete model number. Regarding the surround, is it separating from the woofer, or is it deteriorating? If the latter, it's time for a refoaming. If it's just separating, you should be able to glue it back using Ailene's tacky glue (available in craft stores) or similar.

Can you get a model number? and maybe some pics of the connection plate from the rear (or wherever it is)? I don't recognize it offhand.

This unit was made for Radio Shack back around 1995-96 and is a 12" dual voice coil downfiring sub with an onboard 100 watt amplifier. Quite honestly this unit is more like a bass module rather than a subwoofer, at best this unit only gets down to 29Hz. In my experience this unit works well with tiny speakers such as the minimus 7s and others using a 4-5" bass driver. Other than that, subwoofer technology has come a long way since 1995 and I would recommend spending your time and money elsewhere. Every one of these units I sold while working for RS back then ended up coming back for a refund. I took one home to audition for a week, was not thrilled and returned it before the week was up.

However...YMMV.

If it is downfiring leg pegs must be broken off, would it hurt to run it front firing?
I don’t see how to replace legs , if needed.
Something diy? Or glue legs on maybe

Please see the edit on my previous post.
I would speculate the legs were removed by a previous owner. The legs/feet were plastic and the screws fastened through the center and into the cabinet.

I’m running a stereo integrity si 15” sealed , maybe I’ll use this low power sub wiTh something else. I was asking too see if it was an. Good choice for a second sub or something not doing the heavy bass.
I only have the Si hooked up right now. my klh 10” and the Optimus sw 14 is in my basement neither is being used.
I cannot fit another big sub in my room I’d to build a slim box no thanks. Parents would prob be mad too one 15” is a lot of sound, altho I’d like another.

The onkyo puts out a lot of power would not be suprized if IT could actually blow the Optimus subs due to weakened surrounds. It’s a lower end sub then I thought a friend gave it to me.

His insignia sub woofer was better but I wouldn’t not pay price he wanted for it and it was inferior to the Si.

I would like something as good or better then Si but it could be a while or til I can move out.
Can only get so much bass in a small room or rattle the whole upstairs.

Since you've already got one large subwoofer in a small room, I'd venture to guess that a second subwoofer would be overkill.

The Optimus is passive so maybe not worth powering? Could or damage the receiver or no?

Do you need a amplifier for this model or can you hook it directly to an stereo receiver ? It’s low wattage but could the independence be dangerous ? To old Sony receiver .
My onkyo almost blew this Optimus up sent it too much bass power .
Under closer inspection woofer looks fine but the legs are missing on bottom of this subwoofer. Down firing sub flipped , front firing due to this .
Wanted to use it in my basement for music .

Speaker in and outputs as if it’s meant to hook along with a 5.1 ch as a passive to hook to mains . But my bookshelves are robust not sure if amplifier could handle them both.
Mine isn’t powered see no amp unless it’s inside or something.
It’s passive subwoofers but amps cost more then a new sub ?
Was going to use it in my basement system it’s not high end enough to use with onkyo 818.

I wanted to hook it to an old stereo receiver do I need a separate amPLifter for the sub or what ?
Anything cheap I could use or should I hook a front speaker speaker cord to the sub to power it.
I'm using my way better sub with the onkyo the 15".

The images of it online, seem to indicate it is a passive sub. It's most likely an 8 ohm passive subwoofer so an easy load to drive. If you'd post pictures of the inputs ... we could stop guessing.

It's not really worth "fussing" with for the most part?? But if you want to use it with another system you can. You run speakers to the sub from the amp and from the sub to the speakers and your done! If it proves to be too "boomy" stuff a pair of socks in the port.

And sure you could drive it with a separate amp but for that sub, it would be overkill?? Now if you happen to have amps and stuff laying about unused and want to set something up just cuz you can ... that is different?? But we'd need a lot more details on the gear your using. My moto is KISS. I'm ticked off now cuz, I had to go from two buttons, AVR/TV to uh three, TV, Preamp and a Power Amp to turn the TV on! First World problem ... sometimes life is tuff??

ITs just speaker inputs the old type , if you google the model you can’t see .
I have no unused amps , this stereo is old cannot add a preamplifier .
If it won’t strain my amp , I can just use one or both speaker ports to power it ?
We’re talkings about very easy to hook up gear. I’ll get you more pics
