Yeah, definitely agree with that. Did that style stay on better than the original 200/300/400 metal grills? Seems like those are never quite perfect, either coming loose or bent etc.

The "brogue" grilles IIRC were implemented with the "e" versions although you can find them with the previous grilles too from early runs. They are all based on the same steel grilles used on the "cc" versions but the "e" ones had pins knocked off the perf tool. Fit is no better than the early ones and dependent on foam strips to friction stick them in place.
The Cantons are German made and do have a similar sound to the ADS's; who knows you just may prefer them to the 400's. That's how it worked when I had a pair of 400's to compare to my Canton Karats. My thinking is grab them both and flip the pair you don't care for. Price is reasonable enough that you should even make a few $$.
Those are the last version of the small box L400 and sound the best of the lot, it is more or less a stripped down SAT6. Acoustically the main issue with all the small box L400s is the cabinet. Compared to other small ADS ones it is a Kleenex box in terms of rigidity and that has an affect the sound quality. Can you hear that? You will when A/B against speakers that don't have that issue but on their own they sound OK. But, better than the Cantons? That would be an enjoyable comparison.
