Paradigm Studio 100 v1 - impedance

Hi,

Trying to find nominal impedance for version v1 of this speaker. I see starting with version v2 the manual says "8 ohm compatible". Should I expect the same from v1 version?

I think that they were reviewed in Audio by Keele many years ago that provided an
input impedance curve.
 
Thank you @Pete B. I googled the impedance curve of v2 and while it claims it's "8ohm compatible" (whatever it means...) most of the frequencies run on 4ohms.. Probably same situation with v1..
 
They are also known to have an impedance drop to around 2-ohms between 50hz to 200hz, from what I've read through the years
They work best with a high current amplifier.
 
So I ended up scoring a Denon PMA-700V for another $35 (100WPC into 8ohm, 120W into 6ohm). The product brochure also gives some references to 2ohm peak loads at 350w. It is just soaking off deoxit and will give it a spin tonight. Hope this one survives with my paradigms ;-)
 
You might also look at a used professional amp like Crown, Behringer, etc., which are known to more handle those lower loads. Plus, they sound quite good. I sold these Denon integrated back in 1986 or so when they were new so you have to remember that they are 30+ years old thus the electronics are more at their "tired" stage and may need a freshening soon. Or, just use it till it quits. But at 30+ years of age, it's not going to be quite as stable at those lower impedances because of the older components. That series of amps were great when they were new and we sold a ton of them with JBL L60, 80, and 100T's plus Paradigm Monitor series speakers.

Do look for a powerful high current pro amp, though. You'll be surprised just how good they perform.
 
Yeah I get that about aging components etc. I also see a recap will be a no-easy task as the density of the PCB and number of caps is way higher than in the 70s amps... I measured the dc offset and it seems quite good though - 9.5mv in both channels. I think I will run it for a couple days with my regular 8ohm speakers and see how it goes (e.g. if there's no distoriton etc.). Considering also giving it to a technician with proper gear (osciloscope etc.) to measure the distortion and other more subtle stuff. Probably will pay for this 2x as much as I paid for the amp itself though ;-)
