Parts Express Web Site

All of you, in the US, who can get into the PE site, are passing by their IP filter. It seems that any foreign IPs, including Canadian ones, cannot access their website. I have had 6 different friends of mine, in various locations in Canada, attempt to access, and none of them can get in.

I'm hoping this wasn't intentional on their part, excluding Canadians, but there it is, nonetheless.

Got to look out for you,up to no good, shifty eyed canucks..:D

Yup, with the Loonie nearing par again with the greenback, we're looking to buy the place out:D

BTW, I still can not access, and have heard nothing from PE. Like luvvinvinyl, I have checked with 3-4 friends who use a different internet provider - none can access.

All was OK until 4-5 days ago; I checked them routinely for daily special, Boxing Day sale, etc...

I just spoke with someone in their 'Technical Support' team, to let them know about this problem. Their TS people are there for questions about their products, but he said the IS people had been updating their website, and making changes, over the last few days. He hadn't hears about any such problem, like the one I described, but he would pass the information along to the proper people. He didn't really seemed to concerned, until I mentioned that it was costing them business. "If I can't get on your site, I can't buy anything. My answer was to just take my business elsewhere. Oh, and did I mention that I am an admin from Audiokarma, and Canadians are our second largest membership group?" That got his attention.

Given the timing of this call, I would be surprised to see anything much happen before Monday, but you never know.

When I click on the link in this post i get a blank screen, but it does work when I copy the link to the address bar in firefox an run it from there..

Huh. Odd. Is the browser coming back with a 300/400/500 series error code?

Great – now to add insult to injury I get an E-Mail from PE, ‘New Year’s High Resolution’, that I can’t open/read properly...

That's how I contacted them, before my last post. I don't think that we Canadians are high on their list of priorities.

I recall one ISP from my dialup days that blocked sympatico for reasons I no longer recall, but surely not everyone in Canada is on sympatico.

Interesting. I've been following this thread, and checking access from here, and I've had (and have) zero problems of any kind. Site pops right up, "Welcome Clay" at the top right, and my too full shopping cart is correct.

Just FYI, I have not been able to get onto the website yesterday or today, NB I am in the UK - tried using the IP (72.9.35.38) - no go.

They are not losing any business from me - yet...

Seriously, I doubt that Parts Express has much control over it. And I'm sure they would not want to drive away customers.

You know you can order from Parts Express via Amazon. Often easier than going through the P-E website.

According to the fellow at PE, with whom I spoke, they were reworking their website, and do all their webmaster/site design/IS work "in house".

I have seen plug-ins, for websites, that use visitor's IP to determine whether access is allowed, or to tailor content based on geographic location. I have visited the BBC site, but cannot stream video, because my IP is not in the UK. Even UK proxies are excluded, just to cover that work-around. Major US networks that stream video of their shows, often exclude foreign visitors.

So, yeah, I'm thinking PE does have control over it, they just haven't executed well, or have foolishly decided to exclude foreign visitors to their site. Anyway, they have been told, but I don't expect much to happen before Monday.

We'll see...

Continuing issue for me as well as of this morning - I'd still be very interested in hearing from other Canadians' experiences.
I think luvvinvinyl is correct on all counts - that (however caused) it is a PE website issue and that it doesn't seem to be a high priority item for their IT folk. Granted the timing s*cks, but then they also could have avoided the holiday period to make website changes.
As for telephone contact - as noted above, I called on 30 December and luvvinvinyl called as well...

Have you tried the Parts Express Amazon store front? I use it when their main website is non-responsive.
