Pics of your listening space

Some things are stories best told in person, sitting out on the deck watching a Baja sunset and sharing a Cadillac Margarita. Invitation officially extended.

It does seem to have caused a reaction among some including a few who have told me that the photo "freaks them out".

I think that is just fine...

Here's my space and system. For many years I liked and still do like to see the equipment. However I also like concealed systems so I went that way. Oddly enough the concealment route seems to have a high WAF as well. :D I built a solid maple mantel with faux columns with removable faces to hide the wiring and get it to the attic. That was the easy part.

Next was to built a stereo console. This piece is inspired by some of the early work of Sam Maloof. I re-sawed the walnut from some 12' lengths of 8x12 and larger reclaimed timbers. The wood had to be partially milled and allowed to acclimate for weeks at a time. And still some if went 'potato chip' on me. After a lot of work and foul language over almost a year it was finally ready for 5 hand-rubbed coats of Maloof's Oil-Varnish blend followed by 3 coats of Maloof's Oil-Wax blend.

All the wiring and components are concealed. The remotes work using a wired Niles Audio repeater system. Crawling through the attic pulling wire turned into a bigger job when my foot went through the ceiling. :sigh: Still on the list is to veneer the speakers in some highly figured fiddleback maple or sapelle and make some new un-bleached linen looking speaker covers.

BTW: "Murphy" (seen in the 1st pix) refuses to acknowledge that he's not a dog and also not allowed on the couch. Anybody have experience with training willful Broken-Coat Jack Russels?

Just a temp setup from doing some recapping and testing:

No, the wife isn't happy.

What do you got for speakers there shane?

Cheap Sony cubes from a HT in a box. :thumbsdn:

Then the small wood lattice'd speakers are Sansui SP-50's.

Technics SB-G500's are the big uglies.

AR-2ax on top of the Technics.

*edit: There's a Yamaha sub (I forget the model #) hiding behind everything on the right.

The other AR and Technics still need recapped. I took the picture earlier when I was testing out the recaps. Probably the only time the WAF will drop quite that low for the living room....unless....hmm...how can I hide some stuff?

recently put together: a Toshiba 46" LCD 1080p REGZA screen, replacing the 42" LCD screen i had for two (2) weeks before thieves entered and stole it; to the left, on the rack: rega planar 2, Tosh DVD, Dish Box, Onkyo TX-SR 705 AV upscaling receiver (wow! wow wow wow!); and at the bottom a Rotel RCD-855 being a transport into the receiver's internal DAC; fronts are a home brew project with the help of Paul C, a ported box with Tang Band 4" woofs and Peerless silk tweeters and a Paul C x-over; a Dayton 12" sub woof snagged on sale from PE, and in the rear, ceiling mount Polk Audio units. i am very happy with this outfit

hmmm, sure looks blue gray in there. whaddo i need to do, camera wiz's?
Looks a bright as Disney to me... perhaps you have left-right brain perceptory collusion?:p:
Try a different time of day with sunlight entering the room. Try the camera on a steady surface and use the long exposure 'night' auto function (no flash), if possible. Experts will soon set you straight.

A spare parts rig I put together. It consists of a McIntosh MX-115, MC-2125, a Technics CDP and also a Yamaha CDP. I plan on getting a better CDP for my main rig and moving my Integra SACD player into this one. I'd also like to add a turn table. The speakers are Polk SDA 2B and are soon to have the TL upgrade done.

I know I need something to put on the walls and I also need a area rug. All in due time.

Here's an updated picture. Still not finished. Need to finish cabling, the rack to the very left just got taken out, and the telco rack I have everything in now will hopefully be replaced with something better looking...
