I just happened to be testing one of my dSLR cameras after doing a 'repair'.
Pentax K30 with the dreaded auto-aperture solenoid problem.
27 little tiny screws and pulling the little tiny horseshoe plunger out of the little tiny 2 coil solenoid. Sand the ends of the plunger and then the fun part, putting it back together.
The plunger gets jammed and will not actuate the aperture release lever so you wind up with completely dark photos. Found a guide on youtube. I'm not sure that the sanding
does anything. I think just freeing up the plunger solves the problem, and maybe only temporarily.
With this stay at home stuff, there's nothing better to do and it's fixed now.

Thanks, and thank God for little tiny magnetic screw drivers. On the positive side when the Pentax K30 failed about 4 years ago I was 'forced' to buy their flagship model at the time the K5 ii s.
I recently came across the fix for the broken one on youtube.

I have the VPI classic also. Been interested in the SoundSmith line of carts. What's your opinion of the Zephyr mimc Star ES? I've been running a Denon dl103R and have really enjoyed it, but would like to step up to something higher.

I really like both my Soundsmith Cartridges. I wish I would have gotten that one before my Paua and I would have just got 2 Zephyrs instead. Although the Paua does sound better it’s not worth the price difference in my opinion. I would highly recommend the Zephyr if you’re considering it, it’s definitely a noticeable upgrade from the DL-103R.
