Hung up on better sound!
I had an Akai AM-75 a really long time ago,one cool thing about it was the built in DAC was a lot better than the one in my Sony CDP-990 at the time.
I remember it having a nice clear sound.
As for comparing it to Pioneer never had the two side by side so couldn't tell you.

kinda late but,...
my bet is on the AKAI, for smooth natural bass and highs, the pio will be smooth and clean as well, but have more juice, not as much musicality IMO.
