Pioneer HPM-100 Binding Posts Upgrade

Boy oh boy was this far more of a project than I had anticipated! I had to add small spacers between the crossover and terminal plate to allow more room for the nut and washer to tighten against the soldering washer. All in all I’m super pleased. The original binding post screws had a ton of corrosion (both on the screw and locking key washer). Now the input connections are clean and the crossover is completely clear of corrosion and weak connections!! Woohoo. Plus, these new binding posts are so much prettier.

Nice job and well worth the effort--did a very similar thing to my JBL L100s--I hate those old spring terminals and I use 12 ga wire, so they had to go.

That’s smart. I probably should have mounted it under the damping material on the bottom and ran wires from the binding posts to the crossover. I have a pair of Sansui SP-3200 speakers with a really nice sized crossover mounted on the bottom of the cabinet like that. I remember thinking how nice that was when I worked on it. Oh well. Maybe if I ever recap!

Your plan worked, Just made mounting easier. If you try it, Keep the crossover up away from the woofer. Don't need those thumps on the electronics. I also used a plate to mount the posts.

I've used those same Dayton BPA-38G binding posts on a couple of pair of speakers I've restored/refurbished (KEF 104/2 and JBL L36 Decades). You can't really beat the quality for the price (currently $5.95 a pair). They are well made, easy to install and look great (especially on the KEFs, with their veneered back panels)

I'm about to order a couple more pair for some projects I have in my queue (JBL 4301B and Rectilinear III Highboys). I haven't found anything else nearly as nice without spending considerably more.

The cheapest way to get one pair is to order from Parts Express through Amazon ($5.98 + $5.95 shipping = $11.93).

If you buy directly from Parts Express, they have free shipping on orders over $100, or $6.95 flat rate shipping for all orders under $100. I usually just add a pair or two onto a larger order.
