Pioneer HPM-100 Owners thread

I have a decent pair with a solder connection problem in one of the crossovers.Once I get that resolved I am going to audition them with a number of units to decide if the are keepers. If not there is a young man locally that wants them.

And here's the beaters!

My goal is to clean them up.

They are beautiful, Are they 12" or 15" woofers?

From wikipedia:

The HPM-100 woofer is actually an odd size, it is a 13 inch woofer as opposed to the standard 12 inch woofers commonly found in many comparable speakers. The HPM-100 woofer has an actual 12 inch diameter cone/moving mass. If one were to try to put an HPM-100 woofer in an enclosure designed specifically for a 12 inch woofer, it would not fit

Another happy owner checking in. Crossovers are recapped on mine. Not perfect cosmetically but close enough.

How do you know if the caps need replacing ? Is there something to listen to ?

My personal experience has been the speakers sounded noticeably smoother with the new caps in the crossover. I've seen lots of other people post the same.

That's actually half right. While the frame may not fit into another 12" cutout the cone is just as large as any other 12" driver.

I own a couple of the woofers in an bi-amped 2-way OB experiment with a heil xo @1250hz. Been a very long time since I heard a HPM100 in the flesh but I will say that the drivers are really awesome. The xmas is stupid long.

Here's Pognoot's HPM-100s. I'd say there a 9 out of 10 with a couple of minor marks in the veneer, but who's looking. The front baffles have never been repainted. I've notice some people doing that, but I haven't. The crossovers have been recapped. Of course, the physical design is vintage 1970s at its finest.

Nice, clean looking setup.

Thank you Art. Just the basics is all I needed. Record player, cassette, receiver, speakers. The dewestcoastifier is hidden underneath; a DBX 231 graphic EQ. And I run Spotify because it's just too badass. :music:
