check this out new pioneer speaker made of 100 year old wood that was used
for pure malt wiskey production
are they serious?

They use the wood to give a smooth mellow sound. Especially good when listening to Frank Sinatra... :smoke:

I can read the German, but I am missing some of the matching english words.... I'll try:

The talk about smooth mellow sound, perfectly aged.
They have a Wiskey soaked sound... what does that mean, whiskey drops out of the bass on a hard cick??
So they are built out of american white oak from 100 years old whiskey cascs and this gives the smoth sound which is not possible from fresh wood. Each speaker is a original with a long tradition (in his earlier life) and has a magic clean sound.

I think thats totally bullshit for a speaker of 24*21*15 cm with a 10cm woofer that the wood housing has such big influence on the sound.
3.7kg

Rough translation, too lazy to go word for word on it:

"Simply lean forward and enjoy the whiskey-soaked sound of the Pure-Malt loudspeaker. You will experience a new conception of the speaker from Pioneer. These speakers are constructed out of 100-year-old American white oak whiskey casks, which have soaked up the whiskey and have a characteristic soft and full sound quality which fresh wood cannot give you. Each speaker is an original design out of a long tradition and promises a purely magical sound experience."

Yada, yada, yada... silk dome tweeter combined with an aluminum coil and ferro-fluid cooled iron magnetic system gives a soft and pleasant sound with great clarity and high efficiency... the hard oak makes for an extremely firm cabinet, reducing vibrations and adding to the overall sound quality... these are two factors that contribute to the marvelously expressive imaging...

...cabinets filled with a soft fiber-composite material to prevent standing waves and resonances... same **** they use in the cone and dust cap... Makes for a more accurate sound and softer, more natural presentation...

Then the specs table which everyone can prolly figure out without too much trouble.

Edit: damn, you beat me to it.

English language page here. I'm thinking the Pioneer engineers were jealous of JVC's Saki soaked speakers and wanted a set of their own booze boxes. Why? Maybe for being able to do their "research" on company time rather than at the local bar. :drunk:

.. then I prefer to take good speakers like my Cantons + a SX-1250 + a glass of Tullamore Dew and play some Mark Knopfler - Ragpicker Dream - for now :music:
For me it's already evening, while you guys are still at work :D

Here's the Babel Fish version:

Lean simply back and enjoy yourselves you the Whiskeygetraenkten sound of the pure old loudspeakers. They experience a completely new loudspeaker conception of Pioneer. These loudspeakers were manufactured from 100 years old Whiskeyfaessern from American white oak. The wood up-sucked and produces the Whiskey a characteristically soft and full sound quality, which would not be possible with fresh wood. Each pair of loudspeakers is an original coined/shaped by long tradition, which promises a magic-pure sound experience

Extremely firm loudspeaker housing. White oak belonged to the hardest woods of our planet and fastens this singular housing extremely. Unwanted vibrations by the housing are suppressed, and the achievement of the drivers supports. Two factors, which expressiven to that marvelously klangbild contribute.

Silk-soft Kalottenhochtoener. The again developed silk diaphragm makes the sound soft and gentle. It is combined with a moving coil from aluminum and a liquid cooled iron magnetic system, whereby the thermal radiation and the magnetic efficiency are improved. Result: an outstanding rating with crystal-clear klangbild.

Tieftoener with aramide fiber composite material. The Tieftoener consists of a firm aramide fiber composite material. The same material is used for the diaphragm and the dust shield cap. Thus the firmness of the construction is again improved. The vibrations outgoing from the moving coil can change in this way into acoustic waves, and no unwanted cone resonances develop. The sound can be reproduced more precisely, the rendition becomes softer and more natural.

That turntable looks mightly impressive. Would love to own one. The "S" shaped arm goes to show it was the best design after all!

Pioneer does have a line of components, their "Pure Malt" line.

Perhaps the line has now been extended to Europe.

Just a guess.

Those JVC speakers have a very very high girlfriend aproval rating. The all metal DVD player also fits in nicely with my vintage gear
