Pioneer SP-BS22-LR, the real deal or hype?

The old BS21s are in my tertiary system, in my garage no less, powered by an old marantz receiver (see sig), and are great. Give em a little power and be impressed.

I ended up putting my SP-FS52's on 16" stands since one speaker was hiding behind a couch arm. It made quite a difference in the front stage now that the left side isn't hidden anymore. I think they look even better this way also.

Apologies for the poor pic quality!

Thanks! I love these speakers, I appreciate you recommending them in my thread!:D

The room is still a work in progress but its come a long, long way from its 70's era wood paneling. I'd post pics of the entire room but I don't want to jack the thread. lol

..and you can get those at Walmart of all places! I figure the '22s will show up there eventually too.

I know! I seen them at my Wal-Mart and I probably looked like this...:yippy:

I can't photocopy myself, so just imagine one of those bouncy smiling guys.

Apologies for the poor pic quality!

They actually look pretty nice that way, even nicer than stock, IMO. Did you do anything to the bottoms, or just set them on stands?

Too, what is your opinion of their sound?

Put my order for my Pioneer SP-BS22-LR's into Best Buy today after returning the Polk's. Can't wait to try them out at home and I SO HOPE that my receiver doesn't have any issue powering them....

I run mine in my computer setup with a 7 watt amp, and while it is a near field setup, it powers them just fine. I've run them in my main setup with about 40 watts per channel and they get very loud. I have used bigger amps with them too, but I didn't really gain anything.

Do they sound better without the grilles? I think mine do, just slightly, so I leave them off. The woofer is a lot different on the 22's, the wave guide mounting is a little different too.

I took them off from the get-go. The 21s are just really ugly with the grills on. The grills are also metal not cloth so I imagine there is some kind if effect with them on. I don't like the idea of it though. If you have the 21s just get a small flat head screw driver and work around Tue edges carefully until you get it loose.

Hey all, I just wanted to chip in here. I recently picked these (BS22) up for $90 at Best Buy (the sale is still going), and I am using a $25 Lepai 20W Class-T amp with these. Not only is this amp a perfect match for these... but they sound absolutely incredible, and I don't mean just for the price! While I wouldn't trade my full size ESS for them, I am beyond impressed. Now to compare them against the rest of my speakers... ;)

I am using them in a nearfield format, as computer speakers. I have them up on a shelf about 18 inches above desk height. I flipped them upside-down, so that the tweeter would be closer to ear level - this really helped, though probably not so for general in-room use. They are also fairly close to the wall, which while not optimum, seems to help with the bass (wall reinforcement). Again, I am very impressed with the tonal quality, balance, and clarity/richness of these speakers. Bass could still use some help, but for 4" drivers? Incredible.

Yeah, these speakers are something special. I like them a lot.

I've hated a number of other speakers I've owned, so I'll call it as I see it.

I was asked to share my desk setup. I guess most people don't flip over their speakers. ;) Please excuse the pic quality (and messy desk). It's pretty nice. And that monitor is 27", if you need a point of reference as to how large the speakers are.

Has anyone considered a pair of the center channel model CS22 instead of the BS22? Just wondering since they're both on sale.

Thanks for posting this! It looks like the shelf was already there, and you took advantage of it. But due to the height, you flipped the speakers so the tweeters were closer to ear level. it all makes sense now. I'm trying to figure out a configuration that works for these speakers in my own office, and this does help!

(Sorry to threadjack).

I usually don't get too bent out of shape over small differences but I swear my 21s sound better without the grilles in place. At least without the tweeter grilles.
