It looks good in the blonde wood color though I agree that it's probably just flash photography making it look that way.

That wood looks weird. The two front pieces look like glued-on strips of clear pine, and the rest looks like bare oak plywood. Or ash. hmm. Metal looks mighty clean though.
 
It was all I could do not to write on my monitor with a red pen to correct all the grammatical and spelling errors. I'm not even a teacher.
Do people who don't use periods think in run-on sentences? When I read that, I hear in my head a rambling, monotone word fart.

I try to resist being a grammar snob, not get too obsessive about rogue apostrophes, use of bring and take, I and me, punctuation and spelling in general, the media's common mispronunciation of "a" and "the", ... but sometimes it's whelming.

This one is so bad that I don't think I could buy it from him if he were next-door and selling for $50. Unfortunately there are worse postings.
 
Been watching this one since it hit CL. As for his/her grammar, I could care less. I would be there to test and listen to the 1080 if I decide to purchase it, not to discuss the meaning of life with him/her. Which BTW is 42. :smoke:
 
In that case why are you waiting? It appears to be a decent price for an SX-1080 if in good condition. Why he removed the case (shown removed in one photo) would be a good question, whether anything has been done to it, and if so then what.

If the case is in good condition other than having been sanded (still plenty of veneer remaining, no stains nor damage remaining) then refinishing should be a simple task. Assuming the seller means "survivor" as all original then you have a good starting point for a really nice unit.

If I were interested I'd show up with cash and offer $500 (if nice), see where it goes.

Patience Padawan, patience. If it was going to be sold for the asking price it would have sold already around here in the 1st hour of being posted. I have found my best deals by being patient. And I don't really need the Pio, It's just that I cannot help myself when I run across quality audio gear, and wanting to bring it into my stable for a listen. It has been a few moons since I had one of these in my racks.

While I am by no means a technician in restoring vintage audio gear, I am quite good with cleaning up the units and restoring cabinets on like items.I have contacted the seller with a very fair offer. And a bit more if the piece is as described in his/her listing. Time will tell, or not. Most times It's just the hunt part that makes it worth the pursuit of gear in this addiction we all have IMHO. :smoke:
 
Where I understand and somewhat admire your patience, it might be the patience of the seller that will prevail in this anti-pursuit.

Seller will more than likely prevail in his pursuit of getting his asking price, and he should. He is asking a fair price for the receiver.
 
The market in these neck of the woods Saturation can best be described as "a pack of lions fighting over a pound of meat". No matter what the meat looks like. 10 years ago it was a Buyers market in the Cincy area. Today it is a Flippers market. My only interest in the 1080 would be to complete a rig in my entertainment center upstairs.

Thanks for the fingers crossed my friend. As of now the listing is still up, and I have not heard back from the seller.
 
I just noticed the butt ugly trim "extensions" added to the front corners of the case.
I suppose they could be removed easily enough.
Is it possible that is a home made case?
And never got properly finished?

Those are standard Pioneer case pieces, looks like a stock / sanded case to me.
 
Really?
I would have thought OEM wood cases would have had better construction/craftsmanship than that.
It looks DIY to me. But I don't have any Pioneer gear.
